I am now conducting the damage assessment following the passage of Hurricane Beryl. I circled Rocky Point, and as as one of the parishes most affected, I will be heading to St Elizabeth in just a few moments.
I’m reminding every one of my comments a few days ago regarding the safe use of generators, candles and other types of open flames.
Please be mindful of carbon monoxide poisoning when using generators and be mindful of the possibility of fires when using open flames as a source of light during the anticipated disruption in our utility services.
The PM has issued a statement announcing a new curfew, while addressing Hurricane Beryl's impact, management efforts, and heartfelt thanks to our first responders. Stay informed and stay safe, Jamaica! 🇯🇲🌪️

As Hurricane Beryl begins to move away from Jamaica, the Hurricane Warning has been discontinued for the island. Continuing periods of heavy rainfall could, however, result in flash flooding over low-lying and flood-prone areas of the island; therefore, a Flash Flood Watch is now in effect until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Good night my Jamaican family,
Jamaica continues to experience adverse weather conditions following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
I convened the Cabinet virtually this evening and received reports from the relevant Ministers. After reviewing the current situation, it was assessed that the continuing weather conditions, in addition to consideration for public safety, public order, and the protection of property, warrant the declaration of a new curfew.
Therefore, in accordance with the relevant sections of the Disaster Risk Management Act, an all-island curfew will be in effect from tonight, Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, starting at 11:00 pm through to 6am on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.
I encourage everyone to comply with the curfew measures and take all necessary steps for your safety and the protection of your property. I wish to thank all our first responders, essential services, security forces and good Samaritans who have assisted others in this time of crisis. This storm will pass, and we will recover.
May God continue to bless and protect Jamaica with his mighty hands.
BULLETIN No: 20: Rainfall associated with Hurricane Beryl will continue across sections of mainly central and western parishes, and may be accompanied by strong, gusty winds as the eye moves away from the west coast of the island. Rising water levels will continue to affect coastal areas of southwestern parishes while Beryl remains in the vicinity and all small craft operators are urged to remain in port until sea conditions return to normal.
I am seeing our disaster management system at work, including tracking activities across the island, providing support for shelter and evacuation, and maintaining communication so information can be shared and aid rendered where necessary.
