I find the final stages of the painting process the most interesting, for a few reasons.... 1. I have formed some sort of 'attachment' to the piece that I didn't have with the blank canvas I started out with. I've invested in it and I want to make it 'work'. All going well, I can see something in it, imagine what it COULD BE... 2. Looking at all those tiny corners and bits and bobs that don't quite work yet, and how thousands of tiny brush strokes like this can make a huge difference in the end. 3. Last but not least, there's the tension that it can still go either way at this stage. No place to be, nothing in particular to do. No expectations from the outside world to live up to, nor from yourself. It's bliss. Still there's always this little voice, nagging.
