#lastweek Don’t’ miss to visit the group show “Rifrazioni. 15 curatori x 15 artisti” at Accademia Nazionale di San Luca. Paolo Icaro dialogues with Lara Conte and presents the project where the artist has gone into the bowels of Palazzo Carpegna, occupying the cellars with a site-specific work entitled “Sottosopra” (Upside Down), which relates the underground space of the Academy, the place where the sculptural gesture germinates, a space that is both marginal and secret, with that of the room where the institution’s Archives are kept. Images taken in the cellar by two cameras are projected onto a screen in the Archive. This is a minimal action that overturns perspectives and gives the Archive an organic and evolving dimension. Both environments become places of transformation, from which to list narratives, overturn stereotypes, reveal new imaginaries. 📍”Rifrazioni. 15 curatori x 15 artisti Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome Through 28 June 2024 📷 Paolo Icaro, “Sottosopra”, 2024. #lastweek You have time until Sunday 30 June to visit the solo show at Palazzo Grimani by Wael Shawky. The exhibition brings together the film work ‘I Am Hymns of the New Temples’ made by the artist in 2023 - which, after its premiere at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, is presented in Venice as an international museum premiere - and a selection of works and drawings made by the artist between 2022 and 2024. The exhibition project is conceived as an ideal dialogue between different spaces and times, in which contemporary works coexist with the archaeological works and historical rooms of Palazzo Grimani. Don’t miss it! 📍Wael Shawky “I Am Hymns of the New Temples” Curated by Massimo Osanna, Andrea Viliani and Gabriel Zuchtriegel. #WilliamKentridge LUMA Arles presents the world premiere “The Great Yes, The Great No”, a newly commissioned William Kentridge performance. Produced by The OFFICE Performing Arts + Film, and staged in partnership with the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, it was developed at The Centre for the Less Good Idea. March 1941: a cargo ship leaves Marseille for Martinique with, on board, several artists and intellectuals escaping from Vichy France, including André Breton, Claude Lévi-Strauss and the Cuban artist Wifredo Lam. This real event takes a magical turn when Charon, the ferryman of the dead who has now been promoted captain, rearranges space-time and invites other celebrated figures to join this new kind of ark, an allegory of all the forced expeditions of the past and present, including the representatives of anti-colonialism Aimé Césaire, Franz Fanon and the Nardal sisters. In conjunction with the world premiere of his newly commissioned opera “The Great Yes, The Great No”, the exhibition “Je n’attends plus (I am Not Waiting Any Longer)” presents a group of major works, some of which have not been seen in Europe before. Dealing with issues of migration, oppression, racial relations, the transmission of history, and the role of the artist in a society under duress, the exhibition brings together a remarkable body of experimental and performative work. 📍”The Great Yes, The Great No” 7-10 July 2024 LUMA Arles, La Grande Halle 📍”Je n’attends plus” 30 June 2024 - 12 January 2025 LUMA Arles, La Mécanique Générale 📷1: ph. @ Stella Olivier.
