Thanks to ALL who helped us launch Open Worlds last Saturday. Open Worlds is designed with you, our MoMI community, in mind. We want to extend particular thanks to Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, State Assembly Members Zohran Mamdani and Jessica Gonzáles-Rojas, and State Senator Kristen Gonzales for joining us! Open Worlds—free access to our lobby and courtyard—continues all summer. Stop in and get a cool drink or delicious pastry from @littleflowercafe ; use our WiFi to work on your next screenplay; or enjoy the courtyard on a nice day. Keep checking for upcoming free events all summer long! Link in bio #Openworldsmomi @queensbprichards @zohrankmamdani @sengonzalezny Photos by Thanassi Karageorgiou / @naskaras

Museum without Walls, the partnership between @movingimagenyc and the @Tezos Foundation, is now live! We welcomed visitors over the weekend to see @sabatobox ’s “b a r b i e ~ w o r l d ~ b r e a k d o w n” projected on the Schlosser Media Wall in the MoMI lobby. You can go online to collect a fragment of his work minted on @Tezos . Both are on view/available through July 25. Museum visitors can also take home @auriea.harvey.studio ’s “Echo: Core,” a fragment of “Echo,” her digital sculpture that is part of our major survey of the artist’s work on view in our third-floor gallery. At a new station in our lobby, see “Echo:Core,” and spin the cube to collect an open edition minted on @Tezos —at no cost. Click the link in bio or visit /dressing_room/ to collect Sabato’s fragment. “In the temple of cinema there are images, light, and reality. Sergei Parajanov was the master of that temple.” — Jean-Luc Godard Born in 1924 to Armenian parents in multicultural Tbilisi, Sergei Parajanov was a troubadour of aesthetic finesse whose versatile genius with the moving image is distinguished through atmospheric mise-en-scène, sumptuous colors, opulent settings, and unforgettable imagery. Parajanov broke the U.S.S.R’s socialist realist doctrine by creating poetic-visual artworks that defied convention, most notable in his films THE COLOR OF POMEGRANATES and SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS. Despite severe censorship and multiple arrests, Parajanov would continue to challenge the Soviet regime throughout his career. At his death in 1990, Federico Fellini wrote, “With the death of Sergei Parajanov cinema lost one of its magicians.” Join us starting July 6 to celebrate Sergei Parajanov on the centenary of his birth. MoMI will present some of Parajanov’s greatest feature films and shorts, plus the NY premiere of PARAJANOV: THE LAST SPRING (1992) by his friend and collaborator Mikhail Vartanov. Get tickets at the link in our bio. 100 Years of Parajanov is programmed by guest curator Dorota Lech, who will introduce all screenings July 6 & 7. From April to June, Queens residents who participated in our workshop Program X: Cultural Activism and Media discussed and created films about their migration, solidarity movements, and the quality of life in their communities. Their collaboration was inspired by Roger Sanjek’s “The Future of Us All: Race and Neighborhood Politics in New York City.” The films they made were presented at the Museum on June 15, and we’re pleased to also share them online at /watch?v=IiwjV_wIF1A (link in bio). This program was funded in part by @humanitiesny with support from @nehgov .
