This day on November 1st, 1984, my mother and her family was hiding in a kind Hindu neighbor’s home in Delhi because mobs were going door to door across India to annihilate Sikh people. Zubani Kahani is not just an art piece, it serves as a textbook of true witness accounts and deep research into 1984, which is otherwise banned in Indi@ and omitted from publications and history books despite that the survivors are still alive today. This piece was my way of piecing together what my mother went through via interviews with many family members and available historical research. Especially as we see immeasurable and incomparable violence towards the P@alestini @n ethnic group today, I would like to urge Sikhs to remember that we too have seen violence and should know to step up when we see it towards others - even though the world did not stand up for us does not mean we should be silent as the g0vernment does this yet again to others. Please unify and stand by our P@lestini @n brothers, sisters, and others 💕 Zubani Kahani was part of the Pardafash art exhibit on Sikh struggles that I curated featuring 11 incredible Sikh artists at @uuuartcollective #punjabi #1984 #sikh #desi #browngirlbloggers #art #fineart #artinstallation #museum #history #sikhexpo #sikhhistory #sikhart #punjabiart #southasianart

It was such an honor to walk for @nyfw for @tiltedlotusofficial in Sony Hall at Times Square ⚡️ what an incredible and empowering experience! As a film and TV director, I had often felt like I left my modeling dreams behind, but Preeti, the designer of Tilted Lotus, made them come true after so many years of only being behind the scenes! It was a BLAST! I cannot say enough about the incredible models on my team and how supportive and kind they were and how easy they made it to work with them. It was such a whirlwind experience with so much excitement and uniqueness and it definitely gave me so much more insight and respect for the models who walk in New York Fashion Week and the folks backstage! Thank you Preeti and the team for making this such an incredible experience! 💕 #nyfw #desi #model #browngirlbloggers #fashion #runway @runway7fashion

Repost via @adobe : Where culture is at the heart of everything 🫶 @ravjotmehek shares their story and art journey to encourage the API community & beyond to reclaim their culture, power, and their voice. #APIHM It is such an honor in every sense to be featured by @adobe for #aapiheritagemonth ! When I was 13 years old, I began making cheeky YouTube videos to express myself and my queerness and my creativity and to feel part of a community because I was so bullied due to my race at school. The first thing I did was take an Adobe Premiere class in middle school and I decided to self teach myself the rest - flash forward 15 years, here I am as a professional filmmaker and art activist working with and for the best production companies in not only America but Bollywood as well and collaborating with legends like Adobe, the software that gave me my start and my outlet to expression 💕 my younger self would never be able to imagine this! I’m so thankful to Adobe for allowing me to share all dimensions of my journey as an AAPI queer artist, including the tough moments that made me the artist I am today. I take so much pride in organizations who really step up and say THIS is the whole history of AAPI people and specifically South Asians in America. I am excited in every sense to be where I am today as an artist, and though the journey has been one of immense struggle and crisis, it has been worthwhile because today I get to see young people entering the industry so so much easier and with a thousandfold more support than people in my generation did - and that is worth the fight 💕 thank you Adobe and thank you to everyone who worked with me on the projects I featured in the video. PS thank you @ailbhefitz for making this happen 💕 #aapi #aapiheritagemonth #aapimonth #aapihm #aapiartists #aapimonth  #aapiowned #aapiart #happyaapiheritagemonth #may #film #filmmaker #filmdirector #femalefilmmakerfriday #femalefilmmaker #womenartists #art #artist #animator #creative #desi #punjabi #browngirlbloggers #desiblogger #indian #indianamerican

Can you imagine this is an hour away from my home 🙌🏽💕 some of us can’t travel right now for a whole variety of reasons, but there’s often so much beauty right in our little local neighborhoods that we forget about. This spot has always reminded me of those shots that I see in Greece - and of course I do feel salty sometimes that I don’t get to experience the same cool travels a lot of folks are doing right now, but I do feel grateful that I have a view like this so close by and that there’s appreciation to be had of all the little calm beauties of life in these small towns. Hoping that someday circumstances change and we can all visit wherever we want safely but until then - find a lake or forest or mountain near you and make it your own Santorini or Capri or Rome for now PS The shoes ruin it but how else are you actually supposed to climb on the cliffs 😭 #travel #travelgram #dress #vacation #browngirlbloggers #desiblogger #streetfashion #fashionphotography

Small coastal town life 🏠 I used to want to live in so many places - and often I still do - but I don’t know whether it’s having a community for the first time filled with incredible people or whether it’s my family or whether it’s just me getting older and appreciating what I have more - but leaving this small east coast town life just doesn’t feel like the goal anymore 💕 now I walk past all of these little buildings and trees and waterfronts and am taken aback by their unique beauty and aura. Now I appreciate the routine and the mundane and sometimes when life is chaotic, I miss these little quiet towns where you can walk for miles and only see a handful of people, where you can sing and dance in the street and there would be no one to hear you, where you can see vastness and become vast yourself 💕 #summer #ootd #streetwear #vacation #travel #travelgram #streetfashion #dress #browngirlbloggers #desiblogger

Nothing goes together better like a brown girl in the woods in South Asian fashion 🙌🏽 I love repping South Asian brands that are making moves in sustainability and creating space for marginalized voices! @tegacollective shines a light on Adivasi indigenous communities with each of their pieces being handmade by an Adivasi artisan. I teamed up with @tegacollective for this Pride Month campaign 💕check out our previous video for some insights into South Asians reclaiming Que3rness and revisiting history from a pre-colonial lens! #sustainablefashion #sustainability #ecofriendlyfashion #fashiondesigner #browngirlbloggers #desiblogger

We are finally acknowledging Qu*er history in South Asia! There has been a huge recent shift in reexamining what we have been taught about gender and identity from a pre-colonial lens. We have always existed, we have always been written about and painted and sung about, we have always been in religious texts. @tegacollective celebrated pride month by asking me incredible questions about Que*r history and how it intersects with fashion and identity while wearing their incredible handmade, sustainable clothing! Fashion has always been one of the first ways I ever explored gender and my identity - growing up, I was bullied and outcasted for the way I dressed, looking back at it, the way I dressed was as a que*er emo/alternative person, and I’m sure that didn’t sit well with kids who had minimal exposure to anything that wasn’t the gender confirming “norm”. It was incredible working with @tegacollective and @nihaelety for Pride and I’m so happy that brands like them uplift Adivasi indigenous voices and create sustainable pieces. Music by the iconic qu*er legend and my friend @sikhknowledge 💕🏳️‍🌈 Videography @mikelcravatta - all edits and creative direction by meee Happy pride! #pridemonth #lgbtq #sustainablefashion #browngirlbloggers #desiblogger #queer #pride #loveislove #sustainability

I had the most wholesome, memorable weekend being the special guest at the PFDS show in Toronto 🏳️‍🌈💕hearing Punjabi music based on my life journey and getting to see @sikhknowledge ’s craft in person was a JOY. Seeing so many incredible people and old friends come out to support me and have a night filled with queer Punjabi joy was truly heartwarming 😭💕 folks traveled from across the country and from over the border to come to the show - that is something I’ll absolutely never forget. As someone who grew up isolated from any Punjabi community, seeing so many of my own people in one queer centered space was genuinely healing! PFDS is a one of a kind queer brown event rooted in Punjabi folk music curated and reimagined by @sikhknowledge . @sardar_sardarsingh and @sikhknowledge first interviewed me about my experiences growing up, my relationship to Punjabi music, how my heritage as someone from the entertainer caste of pre partition Punjab has shaped my view on the world and on music. They took my history and turned that into a music set inspired by my experiences which was INCREDIBLY unique and different from any other music experience I’ve ever had. It was the very first time I have ever been in a space with Punjabi folk music, with Qawwali music, hearing Mirassi music out loud in a new way. Thank you to @sikhknowledge @wetsockx and @sardar_sardarsingh for making the night so unique and tailored 💕The way the PFDS team cared for me and thought of every last detail was so geniunely meaningful to me. No one outside of my family has ever taken care of me or welcomed me in that way - I truly felt the meaning of chosen family 💕🏳️‍🌈 I am so endlessly honored by all the wonderful people who came from near and far to support me and hang out for the short time I was in Toronto - it’s truly a core memory that I am blessed to have #event #punjabi #show #queer #lgbtq #pride #pridemonth #nightlife #safespace #toronto #music #dj #djlife

I made my own birthday dress out of table runners and modified / reshaped this resin butterfly top with no design experience! It was SUCH a fun and liberating process. I had scoured the internet for weeks looking for something that matched my vision and I truly couldn’t find anything close. I wanted my look to be goddess like, easy to move in, heavenly, flowy, and of course as is standard for any look of mine - to be cut up and slit and have a feel of empowerment and badasseryyy. So I chose to pull out this dusty sewing kit that we rarely use in my house and do it myself!! We don’t have a sewing machine at home so everything was hand sewn. This upcycling, design project from conception to finish took approx 4 hours. It was such fun that I will most definitely be making more funky stuff. I always say most artists contain multitudes and can usually transfer their art and vision into anything else they do 💕 here’s to a new hobby and skill I didn’t know I had!! #design #fashiondesigner #upcycle #sewing #dress #artist #reelitfeelit #trendingaudio #reelkarofeelkaro #fae #faecore

🏳️‍🌈 Satrangi translates to “seven colors” or “rainbow. Within that rainbow we represent the inifinity of the universe, all of the possible paths, all of the options that we are trained to believe don’t exist. Each individual is like a different color of the rainbow, each having their own unique journey, their unique expressions, their own distinctive path - because there is no right way to be queer, all colors and journeys are welcome. Our Satrangi essence is representative of change, of growth, of endlessness. It represents the intersections of everything we are - including our faith. We are so often told that we are rejected by our faith - but it isn’t the faith that rejects us, it is the ignorant people who feel afraid of change, who feel envious of others getting to be themselves out loud, who feel that culture should trump humanity. We hope to serve as reminders that you can be both - you can be all 🏳️‍🌈 Happy pride month Photography by @i_am_goodknews #pridemonth #pridemonth2024 #happypride #loveislove #translivesmatter #gay #pansexual #sikh #sikhism #sikhhistory #sikhart #pride #queer #lgbtq

Satrangi Siblings • we were once alone and fearful of the world’s perception on Queer Sikhs, but now we are forging our own path together. This shoot was monumental because there are so few openly queer Sikhs in the world - and having five of us together in one shoot was something we rarely get to see. Our worlds have forever felt lit up with hope after the day we met. This pride month, we wanted to share some pieces of our collective journey. Through incredible hardship, we have finally found each other to care for in a world that isn’t ready to show its care towards us yet. People either reject the queerness or the Sikhi, but we are proud to be both and so much more. We refuse to be bound by divisive beliefs and stigmas. We refuse to be part of a system where people are only presented a limited path. We are proof that you can be your fullest, truest self and still practice your faith, still be an incredible contributor to the community, and so much more. We represent change and care, not only for queer people and the lgbtq+ community, but for anyone who is afraid to be their true self and feels alone in their journey. You are not alone - we are in this together. I’m a day late for Father’s Day but the sentiment still stands 💕 last summer my dad and I went on a 7 day road trip to set up my very first art exhibit where I was debuting as a curator for my show Pardafash. I have been on mini trips with my dad before to set up my apartments in NYC and register for college and etc but I have never been on a week long journey with just my dad. He wanted to come support me, support my safety in an otherwise rough part of the country, and be there for the show. It is one of my core memories - he and I would go to the gallery during the day to set up the artwork and then towards the evening we would set off on some adventure whether it was trekking up to Niagara Falls for Fourth of July or whether it was pulling over to every scenic overlook to take a look at the beautiful Great Lakes! My dad is a complex being - there’s so much I wish I could express but I don’t think I have the ability to because so much of his story involves others who may not want to speak. But I understand him - I am always rooting for him to be liberated from what confines him, to be redeemed, to be healed from what plagues him. This inner child piece of my dad is who I choose to remember in those moments. I’ll always cherish the fact that my dad is there for me, supportive of me, and has continued to grow as a person even if it has come with many hitches. This trip was a reminder that many people don’t have a reasonable or tolerable relationship with their dads - some of them have been left behind by their dads. So for that, I’ll always be grateful that my dad is still here, he still cares, still showing glimpses of his inner child, and perhaps has that ability or redemption somewhere in him - and I’ll always keep rooting for him 💕 happy Father’s Day #vlog #vlogger #roadtrip #travel #adventure #browngirlbloggers #sikh #roadtrippin #usa #usatravel #fathersday #fatherdaughter #fatherhood #family #wholesome
