February Cover Girl
@djmagofficial 🤩 When I was asked to be on the cover of DJ mag it felt a lot deeper than a platform for promotion, for me it has real sentiment and actualisation. It was 1999 when I first started buying DJ Mag. Sonique was on the cover and that edition included features about Model 500 and what Irvine Welsh's favourite records were. I still have my copy, my bedroom walls were plastered from cut outs of DJ's and crowd shots from each issue, my ma complaining about the amount of blue-tac stuck to the walls. These magazines were our outlets for education, especially for those of us who were too young for the raves. Any penny I got from anywhere would be put in a pot to buy these mags, they were a complete luxury but one of the very few ways to learn about new music at that age, finding tunes back then was real work, internet music platforms just weren't a thing so our only outlets were physical stores, MTV Dance, these magazines and whoever was on the cover, well that felt important, we took the editorial recommendations as gospel. I'd be straight off into Tower Records to listen to all the Sonique I could find. All of a sudden this 13 year old kid from Dublin knows who Model 500 is, influentially I have a lot to thank DJ Mag for. I've been caring about and cultivating this electronic music thing for a long long time now and it feels very gratifying that it's recognised. ❤️
In the feature I talk about that journey, who am I without it and how difficult it can be to access it with no money. 45,000 copies are being distributed worldwide so you can pick one up in your local newsagents with digi info to follow in Feb. 😁
Thank you so much to everyone involved in the story so far and especially to my management
