🌳 Johann Wenzel Bergl created rooms with fantastic illusionistic landscapes by order of Maria Theresa not only in Schönbrunn but also in the Vienna Hofburg. These originated around 1766. During Sisi’s time, the rooms were repurposed as a cloakroom. The rooms have been preserved to this day and are unique in their kind in Europe.

💫 Have you ever seen this Imperial dining table from the time of Franz Joseph in Vienna? It can be admired in the dining room of the Hofburg. Three times a week official dinners took place here. The imperial family used to convene here every Sunday in a private circle. Every member of the family staying in Vienna had to attend; excuses were only accepted in exceptional cases. In contrast to the public dinners, at which the family kept a low profile, the private circle was very lively.

🏅The gym and toilet room next to her sitting room formed the centrepiece of Sisi’s apartment in the Hofburg, as she spent most of her time there. After getting up at 6 a.m., she devoted most of her morning routine to hair care and also performed small gymnastics exercises. The wall bars, the horizontal bar and the rings in the doorway to the Grand Salon have been preserved to this day.
