theartistrobert is the moniker of Robert Walker a UK-based fine art oil painter best known for his ‘geo-figurative’ works and quirky still lifes painting in oils.
Interested in the semiotics of the figure, his latest works derive their meaning based on the model’s body language or expression and perceived cue his narratives drawing from mythology, popular culture and imagined reality. He enjoys the interplay of the organic figure with linear and ovoid geometric forms bound together through a vibrant colour palette and considered composition. His figurative outlines express his desire to communicate the electric energy within the human form and his use of ‘guard’ lines to protect the model is a personal stylistic choice. As such his work can be considered abstract expressionist.

A very appropriate piece of art with a story full of implications relevant to the disparity in sudden cardiac arrest survival rates we face today, this is a reimagining of ‘Lucretia’ by Artemisia Gentileschi by @theartistrobert , 48x36”, oil on canvas.
Gentileschi often painted virtuous women who were ill-treated by men. How apropos a selection.
The historical figure Lucretia is said to have been raped and blackmailed. Swipe to see the original painting which depicts her taking her own life in response to this.
In Robert’s piece, Robert changes the narrative with the addition of defibrillator pads to symbolize the ability to give back life. We hope all viewers will realize they have the power to offer this.
Not performing life-saving defibrillation during a sudden cardiac arrest on someone because they are a woman is certainly ill treatment. It is literally allowing someone to die because of their gender and physique.
We mourn for Lucretia, as we do for all who are treated as someone less than. Lucretia’s suicide led to a rebellion which overthrew the Roman monarchy. Let this piece honor Lucretia as our rebellion overthrows the mindset that anyone is less than and should not be offered resuscitation in the case of a sudden cardiac arrest.
