Solar Angels & Lunar Lords, a solo exhibition by Lina Iris Viktor, continues at Pilar Corrias Conduit Street until Saturday, 13 July 2024. The artist’s new paintings, works on paper and sculptures bring together ethically-sourced earthen materials – silk and silkworm cocoons, natural raffia, 24-carat gold, banana yarn and bronze – in formations that reference the West African visual cultures of the Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Benin. Wow! Stunning work. I wish I could also see in reality. I love when galleries include short films of the artists talking about the work as it illuminates (pun intended due to the title of this show) the intention behind the work and adds real insight and interest in the pieces.
