"Edie (The Destroyer)" Although Eisenman has made sculptures since the 1990s, she has increasingly focused on the medium, bringing her wit and material exploration into three dimensions. This monumental sculpture is an ode to the artist's cat, Edie, who entered her life during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Underscoring the amusingly exaggerated impact of an otherwise diminutive housecat, Eisenman has rendered the larger-than-life bronze head as a wrecking ball, tethered by a chain to a crane. Eisenman selected this particular crane, emblazoned with the manufacturer's name MARSDEN, as an homage to the US artist Marsden Hartley (1877-1943). With this nod to art history, Eisenman traces a lineage between Hartley's vibrant paintings and her own figurative style.
