Butler: Seeding Futures” will honor the life and legacy of award-winning science fiction writer, Octavia Estelle Butler, while offering museum visitors a speculative youth-focused rendering that explores Butler’s childhood inspirations and influences. Throughout the research and development of this exhibition, The New Children’s Museum has remained grounded in Butler’s vision of community, and has collaborated with various field experts and creatives who, like Butler, are telling stories of alternative futures that are fairer, more just, and hopeful.
