An amusing experience with students at John Hopkins University led us to reflect on a very interesting negotiation bias, the 'fixed pie mindset', which leads to a purely competitive reading of the context and thus to results that risk being far from optimal. The literature proposes an alternative, the pie widening and integrative negotiation. But are we sure, if we think about climate negotiations for example, that this pie metaphor is still appropriate?
