029 is a project that I’ve been wanting to launch for a while. It represents a phone number ☎️, an origin story 🗺️, uprooting and planting roots in a new place 🌳 and so much more. It’s about coming together as a community and creating a sense of belonging for each other 🙏. In addition to dinners, we have so much more planned for y’all. On May 26, we hosted the first Chroma dinner at NOR Eindhoven. We served 3 courses that originated from different Asian cuisines (Thai, Chinese and Indian). Our guests were invited to taste and play with different colorful ingredients, oils and flavors. Most importantly, we were able to donate the proceeds to Gaza families and emergency funds on GoFundMe. Thank you guests for showing support and eating with a purpose! 🇵🇸

For the May 26 dinner, the main dish will be a colorful 煎饼卷菜 - Chinese crepe with vegetables. Although there are variations of 煎饼 in each region in China, what makes me the most nostalgic is the one I had in my birth city in Ankang, Shaanxi Province. It’s a thin and fluffy crepe wrapped with a variety of stir-fried vegetables and salads - crunchy, fresh and colorful. It’s a legit flavor bomb 💣 AND 100% vegan 🌱 . For my multicolored version, the crepe batter will be made with spinach 🟢, purple yam 🟣 and carrots 🟠. Don’t forget to dip the wrap in my home-made Shaanxi-style chili oil 油泼辣子
Throwback to December last year, when 029 collaborated with @___eat_your_feelings___ on a special dinner under the theme of vampires. Inspired by the movie “What We Do In the Shadows,” 029 made 3 dishes that played with garlic 🧄 , fake blood 🩸 and killer heat 🥵. We were very grateful for the guests who showed us support and allowed us transform our studio @verfris.studio into a dining, cinema and party space. Thank you @hamaremar for the 📸
🎨𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚 is a cooking concept by @029_____ aka YP Wang where he takes dishes as blank canvases and paints them with an emphasis on vibrant, natural colors from ingredients. YP takes inspiration from Northwestern Chinese cuisine where he’s from, mixed in with the colors and flavors he’s tasted from around the world - aromatic, herbal, fresh, punchy and spicy. He’s particularly interested in extracting colors and flavors from herbs and infusing them in oil or other condiments. He will prepare a 4-course vegetarian meal where he puts a colorful spin on traditional dishes from around Asia.
029 is a knowledge-sharing platform based on the idea of living one’s life far from home. 029 is the area code of Xi’an. It represents the number to call home, conversations about what we see out in the world and report it home. The longer we live abroad, the blurrier and more abstract this number becomes. The concept of a home number is thus slowly shifting, as we the diaspora adjust to our new home and find ways to access to that home number in our own unique ways.
