Did you know that beeswax is naturally white? It gets its distinctive yellow color due to bees being busy all day collecting pollen, nectar, and resin, which then sticks to their legs. Tomáš decided to explore this further by introducing a red dye into the beehive, resulting in the beautiful color transition seen in Nefertiti’s crown. On July 7th, artist Tomáš Libertíny will give an exclusive artist talk in the @kunstmuseum.nl . Here, you can discover his unique beeswax sculpture in person! You can sign up on www.kunstmuseum.nl. See you there 🐝 Tomáš Libertíny | Eternity (a.k.a. Nefertiti) | 2022 Natural beeswax, wood | 50 x 36 x 24 CM #exhibitiontruecolors @kunstmuseum.nl @akzonobelartfoundation @tomaslibertiny @galerieronmandos @lakesidecollection

This vibrant artwork, infused with a Papiamentu title, serves as a poetic reflection on the multifaceted nature of Curaçaoan identity. Drawing from the rich tapestry of her upbringing in Curaçao, Eugenie Boon crafts a visual narrative that delves into themes of cultural identity and collective memory. With a keen eye for detail and texture, her work transcends mere representation, offering viewers a glimpse into the intricacies of everyday life on the island. Snæfell, a remote mountain in Iceland known for its kaleidoscopic skies and ever-changing landscape colors, is beautifully captured by artist Allard van Hoorn, using 1536 rainbow-colored LED lights to visualize the changing skies. A computer continuously searches the internet for images of Snæfell, which are then processed to separate the skies and the mountain, allowing the installation to reflect abstract reality. ‘Skies over Snæfell’ is currently on view in our exhibition space. We highly recommend standing in front of it for a while, and letting the landscape transport you to that magical place. Visit our free Art Space from Mon-Fri at Christian Neefestraat 2, Amsterdam. #Allardvanhoorn @allardvanhoorn #installationartist #installationart #performanceartist #earthexhibition #acollectivelandscape @akzonobelartfoundation @de_appel @mondriaanfonds #snaefellnes #Snæfell

Like a movie scene straight from a cult classic (literally.) Louise Giovanelli’s ‘Altar’ (2022) captures the haunting tension of a prom night on the brink of horror. Feel the dread and anticipation as Carrie White, the iconic character from Stephen King’s 1976 horror movie, stands vulnerable beneath the ominous quiver of a pig blood-soaked bucket. 🎨 Altar | 2024 | Oil on paper | 63,5 x 44,5 cm 💥 Movie still, ‘Carrie’ by Stephen King (1976) 📷 Photography by: Jonathan de Waart 📍 On view at ‘True Colors - AkzoNobel Art Foundation in Kunstmuseum Den Haag’. @akzonobelartfoundation @kunstmuseum.nl #ExhibitionTrueColors #LouiseGiovanelli @louise___giovanelli @grimmgallery

Identity, sexuality, gender and cultural stigmas are a common theme in Wang’s (1981, China) oeuvre. This intimate pink cosmos on rice paper, sewn into a jacket, shows handwritten text and drawings by Wang. She took inspiration from a Chinese masterpiece called The Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin, in which reflections occur on identity and the clothes in which we choose to present ourselves. 📍 On view at ‘True Colors - AkzoNobel Art Foundation in Kunstmuseum Den Haag’. 💛 Need another reason to visit our open Art Space? We’ve just added Marloes Roeper’s diptych ‘Flock’ (2020) to our exhibition ‘EARTH - A collective landscape’! 🐦‍⬛ Roeper, intrigued by how we perceive and attach meaning to minimal brushstrokes, strips down familiar scenes to their essence. This way, she questions what is truly necessary to create an image, celebrating simplicity and form. Visit our open Art Space Mon-Fri 09.00 - 18.00 at Christian Neefestraat 2, Amsterdam or look at our exhibition online. Wavy hair cascades like a river down a mountain, while a constellation of glistening stones and pearls adorns a soft yellow sky. Her art illuminates societal taboos—motherhood, gender, fear, and sexuality—through delicate layers of oil paint and mythical figures. Otten’s work weaves a timeless, personal narrative that invites you to look deeper, to feel more, and to uncover the hidden stories within each detail. 📍 On view at ‘True Colors - AkzoNobel Art Foundation in Kunstmuseum Den Haag’. @akzonobelartfoundation @kunstmuseum.nl #ExhibitionTrueColors #femmyotten #oilpaint #womenartist #mythicalfigures

This textile piece by Patricia Kaersenhout is not just visually pleasing, but a profound commentary on history and identity. By highlighting forgotten Black feminists, Kaersenhout’s artwork challenges the narrative of history and shines a light on those who have been marginalized. She brings to life the untold stories of exceptional Black feminists like Solange Fitte Duval, pioneers in the fight against racism and inequality.
