Artists: Lindsay Kane, Henry Sanchez, Kate Harding, Clint Baclawski, Freedom Baird, Yin Mei, Caitlin Parker, Olivia Milner, Allison Kaufman, Keiko Narahashi, Mathias Kessler, Amanda Russo Rubman, Mary Ann Strandell, Julie Hedrick Welcome to “Changing Tides,” an immersive container from which to navigate the currents of change sweeping across society writ large. The exhibition explores the pressing need for transformation across multiple spheres of human existence, including climate awareness, social engagement, sustainability and material explorations, and environmental stewardship.  In “Changing Tides,” the artists serve as guides, offering glimpses into alternate realities that challenge the status quo. Through various modes of exploring the themes of climate change to social justice, the interconnectedness of our world and the urgency of collective action is illuminated.

Allison Kaufman: Smooth Confident Perfection The Shirley Project Space March 8 - April 19, 2024 Allison Kaufman: Smooth Confident Perfection explores the performance, hope, and vulnerability experienced by both sellers and consumers in a capitalist society. Recontextualizing and examining overlooked, worn, and gendered marketing materials, her photographs, installation, and video reveal the earnest efforts of salespeople that have faded over time, their degradation communicating the absurdity, impossibility, and slow failure of our societal aspirations. Kaufman considers the fantasy of both the seller and the buyer and where these desires collide: the storefronts of city sidewalks.
