Come out today (June 24) for the Launch Party of the MR Performance Journal, Issue #60 on “Gender Disarray.” 6-8pm at St Mark’s Church, Parish Hall.
It’s been a fabulous experience working as a contributing editor. I was able to work with some badass Vietnamese people on this issue: chị @pandatunx and her dictionary of queer lexicons in Vietnam, @expendablefemme and her painfully exquisite poem, @phungy1230 and her much-needed writing around propaganda via chị Lại Diệu Hà’s recent performance work. I’m so grateful for @avgolis98 and @apell168 who give me the theoretical teeth to chew through the pain of gender, to reorient away from the self-centered project of what to do with gender and be more attuned to how gender does and undoes us.
Please pick up a copy of the journal and spend some time with it. Can’t wait to sit with the other works in the journal as well!! Thank you so much @jlubinlevy@jarthy@nicole_bradbury for bringing me into this issue and wrangling it all together 🙏
Come by to my neighborhood park tomorrow for a little performance offering! We might do a slow flash mob procession if I muster up the courage for it 🐒
Some fragments of Common Fetish from this past weekend, taken by @yocactus . It was a Herculean effort to make this show happen. Hopefully we’ll get to do it again soon - bring us to a warehouse near you 😅
There are so so many people I need to thank - it’s always the dancers first and foremost. Nile, Kris, and Kristel, I love that we have no idea where we are going most of the time but we all go somewhere together. Y’all are the embodiment of devotion and grace. Truly couldn’t have done it without you three 😮💨 Bless Ethan for your instrument channeling magic and sexy intimacy group wizardry 🪄 Much gratitude to @shanzhai_lyric for lending us some costume pieces 👔, and to Kyle for all of your behind-the-scene support ☔️ I’m absolutely indebted to Serena, who said yes to all of my idiosyncratic Imagining of the space, and also Linh and Lily for Lunch Hour’s curatorial vision. It was unbelievable the amount of people who made it out to Glendale to see the performance and the larger exhibition 🧦 Much love to you all!!!
Hair washed for the performance 🫡 Come today and tomorrow!! Plenty of tickets at the door - there’s no official capacity. Saturday (i.e. today) will be crowded, sunday will be more chilled. If money is tight, you can donate however much you want or get in for free, no questions asked
Some of the seeds planted in non-binary pussy are now growing in Common Fetish. Would love to do this full version of non-binary pussy in nyc soon 💕 Meanwhile, get your tickets to Common Fetish this weekend!!
Blessings to @reallygoodatmath for her sacrificial performance, @isilberis for his pulsating music, @mosnave for her Hello Kitty shirt and her radiating brilliance in general. So grateful for @thedavidriley who brought me to the @icavcu . And Savannah and Mimi and many others who made it all happen last November 👠
Come hear @ethanphilbrick serenade you this weekend! Join us on Sunday if you can - Saturday is gonna be packed 😮💨
Ticket link in bio! DM me if you need cheaper/free tickets. 📸: @reallygoodatmath
