𓇹 𝕹𝖆𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖓 𝖄𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖌: 𝕿𝖚𝖓𝖊 𝕴𝖙 𝕺𝖗 𝕯𝖎𝖊! 𓇹 // Opening Saturday, July 6 from 5–8 PM during the Summer Season Opening Party, Art Omi will premiere a new body of work by Nathan Young (Delaware/Kiowa/Pawnee, @nathanyoungprojects ) in the Newmark Gallery that includes scores and a set of reimagined flags, focusing on peyote, a medicine and sacrament in the Native American Church. Central to the project is a new series of event scores titled Tune It Or Die! (2024). Musicalizing both motorcycles and dirt bikes, their revving engines will become a new noise piece, continuing Young’s interest in Indigenous sonic agency and in unnerving frequencies with insurrectionary potential. The work’s title comes from a patch rumored to have been worn by La Monte Young, the seminal minimalist composer, who Brian Eno described as “daddy of us all.” The Summer Season Opening Party is free to attend and open to the public. Advanced registration appreciated. 🔗 RSVP for the Summer Season Opening Party at the link in our bio. 🎞️ Animation: Freer Studio (@freerstudio ) 💭 Nathan Young: Tune It Or Die! is curated by Sara O’Keeffe (@saradeirdreokeeffe ), Senior Curator, with Guy Weltchek (@dj_guy_arts_center ), Curatorial Assistant #artomi #contemporaryart #opening #hudsonvalley

Outcasts From the Underground (2024) On July 6th 2024 from 3pm onward at @art_omi , let’s celebrate the opening of Outcasts From the Underground. This project was made possible by @jvandenhout from Art Omi, designed by @0super from @_bureauspectacular , fabricated and assembled by Patrick Daly from Keeler Concrete, and engineered by @melnyk_matthew from @nousla . When we first presented this model to Matthew, he asked us to “live a little”. We did, Matthew. We lived a little. At Bureau Spectacular, @zaneabuhamdan , @peipeiwu02 , @fu______________n , @bryanlee.design @negin.sabouhi @y2k.png each contributed, key efforts by @men_yushan and most critically @gilphg for bringing this project to life. This project is a stack of industry-standard septic tanks, catch basins, dry wells, basement staircases, frost posts, and other ready-made precast concrete products born to be buried underground. This project, alongside its other siblings from Bureau Spectacular, is a monster. Please come and enjoy this moment together. Officially 5pm-8pm, let’s celebrate. #bureauspectacular #artomi #keelerconcrete #nousengineering #monsters

🛞💨 𝕹𝖆𝖙𝖍𝖆𝖓 𝖄𝖔𝖚𝖓𝖌: 𝕿𝖚𝖓𝖊 𝕴𝖙 𝕺𝖗 𝕯𝖎𝖊! // Rev your engines for the opening of Nathan Young: Tune It Or Die! in the Newmark Gallery on Saturday, July 6 from 5–8 PM during the Summer Season Opening Party. Tune It Or Die! marks the first New York solo exhibition of Nathan Young (Delaware/Kiowa/Pawnee, b. 1975). It premieres a newly commissioned series of scores and reimagined flags titled Black Flag for an Imaginary Peyote Chapter, inspired by the iconography of the Native American Church and symbolism of peyotism, a medicine and sacrament in the church. Central to the project is an altered dirt bike that Young will play as an instrument in a series of performances titled Tune It Or Die! (2024). The bike’s revving engine—played solo as well as joined by other motorcycles—will become a new noise composition, continuing Young’s interest in Indigenous sonic agency and in unnerving frequencies with insurrectionary potential. The work’s title comes from a patch rumored to have been worn by seminal minimalist composer La Monte Young. The Summer Season Opening Party is free to attend and open to the public. ☀️EXPERIENCE THE SUMMER SOLSTICE AT ART OMI ☀️ // Steven Holl’s (@stevenhollarchitects ) sculpture, Obolin, serves as a sun gauge, with three tubular Boolean cutouts subtracted from spherical geometry. These tubes mark the exact location of the sun’s vector based on its exact geographical location at noon on the Summer and Winter Solstices, and at 2 PM on the Equinox. The work celebrates the scientific and psychological effects of light and space. Holl upholds the impact of light by stating, “The presence of light is the most fundamental connecting force of the universe.” 🔗 Plan your visit at the link in our bio!
