Nueva York ✨ Next Saturday 06/15 as part of
@bronxmuseum ’s 6th AIM Biennial curated by
@eileenj8 , I’ll be hosting a talk with my inimitable (an understatement) uncle Régulo. We’ll have a conversation about petroleum and Cabimas. Very serious topics but it’ll be fun. We laugh to not cry remember (Welcome to
#LaRentrada always).
Régulo has been my petroleum provider and collaborator for all the pieces from
#TheyCalledItMena , such as ‘Venezuelan Petroleum for the South Bronx’ and ‘Telurismos a Tres Tiempos’ (on view at
@sorondo_artists in Barcelona until June 16).
He is also a big inspiration on figuring things out, always with humor. Whenever I’ve done weird things in my studio, my parents always say “imagine Régulo was with you”.
He is one of the most charismatic, smart and funny people I know. This year has been full of unexpected turns and Régulo being in NYC is one of them. He never left Venezuela until some months ago. Come with all your petroleum questions. I’ll collect some this week.
The talk will be in Spanish because Régulo doesn’t speak English but my twin
@pomboluiscarlos will translate as we go.
There will be a zine to give to those who come with never seen before photos in Cabimas playing with petroleum. Limited availability so come early. Link in stories and bio to RSVP.
TYSM Education and Public Engagement Team (Patrick, Nell and Alex) with support in putting this together and being open to this unorthodox format.
The show closes Sunday 06/16, so this is almost the last chance to visit. On Saturday there will be other public engagement programming, including a clay workshop with the talented and smart
@ivanabrennner ✨
I’m still en las Europas but I’ll be back in NYC soon. See you there 🧚🏻♀️ (the image has a mistake, the talk is on Saturday 6/15)
