😍 Love this profile of Farrah Simpson, who will become the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. from Brown Physics, by Brown Alumni Magazine's Megan Talikoff ’25! From Brown Alumni Magazine: Farrah Simpson ’21 ScM, ’24 PhD will become the first Black woman to earn a doctorate in physics from Brown. Hailing from Jamaica, Simpson has traversed the country learning and gaining wisdom from some of the most prominent physicists and giving back, but her accomplishments have not come without its difficulties. Learn more about her journey from making breakthroughs in particle physics to being a champion for diversity to the next generation of Black physicists in our latest issue. 🍎🥯🥗 DID YOU KNOW? The SOE Café is open! The physics community is happy to hear there is no need to venture out under the scorching sun to grab lunch this summer! School of Engineering Dean Tejal Desai announced earlier this week that, after years of lobbying, the ERC eatery would be open throughout the summer, operating on summer hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m, Monday through Friday from June 24th through the end of summer. This is great news to the many physics students, staff and researchers who work and study in Barus and Holley. Researchers can stay more connected to their work by popping down to the ERC for a quick bite, making it easier to fuel up and stay healthy outside the lab! It must make good fiscal sense for Dining Services to remain open in the ERC-Hazeltine Commons-Barus and Holley community next summer, so as they say, use it or lose it! Let us know how having the Café open will positively impact your summer experience! Engineering students will, in part, staff the Café with Dining Services’ staff like Stewart Doyle and Samantha Powers, who announced, “We are open at the ERC!” Stewart, Samantha, and the rest of Dining Services’ staff look forward to seeing the physics community for lunch this summer – in numbers! @brownudining @s.o.e_cafe @brownengineering @brownu_sac
