Happy to have this piece “Secure” that I made way back in 1988 out of its storage box and onto the wall of Flowers Gallery in cork street for the next two weeks as part of their archive show celebrating the anniversary of ‘Artist of the day’ a brilliant initiative in which I participated in 1988 chosen by Philippa Beale. Im Very pleased that this piece ‘cauldron’ has been accepted for this years Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. This last six months has been super hard for my family we have been walking on eggshells. so its really great to have some positive news today . Unpacking something from 1988 with my trusty assistant standing by ‘secure’ 1988 due to go in Flowers Gallery Artist of the day anniversary exhibition in june i was selected back in 1988 by Phillipa Beale to show work for a day in the gallery. Unfortunately in a race to get my work done the night before i sliced through my thumb with a hacksaw and spent my entire ‘day’ in hospital being sewn back togeather. I still have the scar. 36 years later Ive never learned not to work all night to finish things. In my unpacking i especially liked that i packed it in a boom box cardboard box so double history. I had strange dreams about unpacking this piece last night my mind took me through a whole gamut of creative fear options which covered the last 38 years. I woke utterly exhausted as if i had worked all night how strange is that? All i had to do was open the box. @flowersgallery #artistoftheday #matthewflowers #phillipabeale

Unicorns for sale! £220 each plus postage and packaging sold as part of the Artist support pledge set up by the brilliant Matthew Burrows. Idea is simple you sell your work for £220 and when you reach £1100 in sales you pledge to buy another Artists work. I made 18 of these Unicorns all handmade and slightly different. materials Elastoplast copper wire paint and beads on a plinth made from torn paper finishes with graphite the plinth is approx 15x 9cm.
