This is the last week to visit the solo exhibition “Everyone, a Universe” at @fundacioantonitapies , in Barcelona, Spain. The title of my exhibition comes from a famous quote by Tapies “The dramatic sufferings of adults and all the cruel fantasies of those of my own age, (...), appeared to inscribe themselves on the walls around me.“ I combined it with an personal experience and wanted to extend it into an universal truth. At Fundació Tàpies, I feel the presence of Antoni Tapies around me. It is an honor to exhibit here and to be in dialogue with the work and thoughts of a kindred spirit. The immersive installation "The Extended Line"currently on display at Art Unlimited @artbasel , Basel, Switzerland. The work is rooted in personal experiences as a cancer survivor but it is also so much more as it is intended to connect to the universal experience of life of the audience. There is a theory that the body reacts before the mind can create a thought. Maybe this describes how I feel. I am not only my body, but also my consciousness. We are moving through the unconsciousness; we are reacting before we are thinking. My mind and my body act separately, they are connected but not attached to each other. After my diagnoses, my art was affected as well. I wanted to experiment with more permanent materials. I recreated my hands out of bronze. I wanted to create something that remains after I am gone. The material is an extension of the body. It is all about the memory under the skin. For the installation, the clothes depict the shape of a body and fill the space with an intangible presence. I have been working with the concept of “existence in the absence” for a long time and find it interesting what association the emptiness evokes in visitors. For me, our clothes are like a second skin. Our third skin are the buildings that shield us from the world. The longer I am present in the Ebensee concentration camp and learn about it, the more I ask myself what human existence is about. What kind of world is this that we live in? In diesem tristen Umfeld des Ebenseer Stollens schafft sie mit roten Seilen und 25 überlebensgroßen Kleidern ein Kunstwerk, das die Anwesenheit der Opfer erspüren lässt. Für sie ist Kleidung eine zweite Haut, die uns Schutz bietet, aber uns auch die Möglichkeit bietet, Normen zu entsprechen. In der Installation sind die Kleider zwischen roten Seilen gefangen, die wie ein Nebel die Figuren verschleiern. It is an honor to show the solo exhibition „Everyone, a Universe“ at Fundació Antoni Tàpies @fundacioantonitapies , in Barcelona, Spain. I believe that Antoni Tàpies and I share the common interest in asking the big questions on the human condition in our art and using ordinary, everyday objects to do so. While we arrive at different media and artworks, I share a deep understanding for his work. We both experienced the fate of a severe sickness and death is a recurring theme in both of our art. The exhibition delves into the themes of „existence in the absence“ and the question of what remains from us when our body is gone. After being confronted with death, I have wondered how often one is able to experience death in a lifespan. Which has become an inspiration within my art and the conclusion that to be alive means to endure suffering, as it is part of our existence. The installation ‚The Endless Line’ has opened at @podomuseum Podo Museum on Jeju Island, South Korea, as part of their group exhibition „Perhaps Sunny Days“ . The installation displays an accumulation of thoughts and desire to connect to the people around us as you cannot exist in this world without connection. While we live in this world, the objects that surround us accumulate our memory and therefore emit an existence in the absence. Especially when a person has passed, you can feel their presence in the chair they sat in, and rooms they lived in. The furniture portrays a life lived. I can see a person sitting at the desk, even though no one is there. They might be writing in their diary, collecting their thoughts of their busy life, or writing an email to their friends or family. Information formed in our brain and expressed with words, but information is also often lost in words unspoken.
