SOUND IN TIME many things.. a lungfish reference for one.. Awhile back I brought a cardboard model of an idea I had for a speaker to @ian_treasure Ian worked with me and transformed this loose cardboard idea to an absolutely stunning wooden object that caretakes and exudes sounds. Sounds that would not be heard from the object without the expertise and insight from @innergroovedistortion whom I’m very grateful for being in my life. The base sound is an altered edit from a live performance at @coneshapetop August of last year. Mat and cat from cone shape inspire me so much and that performance, which I shared with @joelstjulien , was so special. It means a lot to me for these sounds and that moment to be present…to be part of the artwork. The layered sounds which rest on top of the cone shape performance come from ceramic instruments I made.. porcelain tuning forks, bells, flutes and shakers. These came about from the encouragement and support from @colby_claycomb and @judbergeron . I owe so much of my new efforts to them. SOUND IN TIME. Just thinking about the kind of world I’d like to live in.. and it’s with people like Ian and Jason and mat and cat and Joel and Jud and Colby .. I like connecting the dots with everyone. Some of us go way back. SOUND IN TIME for me it’s way more than an object.. it contains so much more than a soundtrack to the show.. all these folks and my moments with them help see the world in a better light. Join us this Sunday, July 7th at 4pm for spatial facilitation #7 a performance by Zekarias Musele Thompson spatial facilitation, a term of art in physiology, refers to stimuli that contribute to the accurate processing of visual information. That is to say, there are certain things that we see, that help us see more precisely. spatial facilitation is an ongoing project of mapping clearer vision through walking, noticing, the breath, and the saxophone. ANALOG SOLUTIONS FOR ANALOG PROBLEMS. For spatial facilitation #7 we will visit Christopher Robin Duncan’s exhibition The Space Between Years to observe what happens when day moves into night. Zekarias Musele Thompson (b. 1983, they/them/their) is an artist based in Oakland, CA, and Reykjavik, IS often working in sonic composition, mark-making, photography, collaborative group practice & performance, and writing. Their practice is concerned with humanity’s conceptual and emotional organizational structures—and how we bring them into material form. They have presented work at venues including the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, The Lab, Museum of the African Diaspora, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Land and Sea, and Eternal Now in the Bay area — as well as Associate Gallery, Ásmundasalur, and Open in Reykjavík, Iceland. They have performed and collaborated with artists such as Oysterknife, Salimatu Amabebe, Zack Parrinella, Pétur Eggertson, Phillip Laurent, Lonnie Holley, Zachary James Watkins, Claire Fleming Staples, Laraaji, Miles Lassi, Jessica Ackerley, and more. Zekarias is an instigator of the Musele Project, a sound, image, performance, and facilitation practice that encourages deep, empathic listening, and a co-founder of Working Name Studios, a collectively owned and organized arts institution with the mission of building institutional stability and equity for underrepresented creative practices, ideas, and people. They are currently an MFA candidate in the Department of Art Practice at UC Berkeley. @thefunisover Made this incredible bench that lives within my exhibition at pt2. It’s ebonized cherry. His sensibilities and craft are of the highest level. A beautiful intuitive maker. I’m really so stoked that he was able to be part of the show. Go have a look go have a seat.
