Heather Hartle (@engraved.inspiration ) has been busy all week prepping the Studio's brand-new Engraving Room for students to use! ✨ Her class, 'Engraving Imagery,' begins tomorrow and will be the first ever in this new space. Stay tuned to see what she and her students get up to this week! 👀

It was such a special night celebrating the opening of The Studio’s new Theater with the screening of Paul J. Stankard: Flower and Flame 🌺🔥 Paul was the first flame working teacher when The Studio opened in 1996 and now the first artist featured in our stunning new theater. Thank you to everyone who came out 🎥✨

Have you checked out the new exhibition, TRANSPARENCY, at 171 Cedar Arts Center yet? TRANSPARENCY is a collaborative exhibition created in partnership between @171cedararts and The Studio! This show features 19 contemporary glass artists representing a rich variety of techniques, styles, and conceptual approaches to the medium. The best part? Every artist showcased has a connection with The Studio, its programs, and the community of artists it nurtures. The exhibition is on view through July 12 at the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Street in Corning, NY. We’d love to see you there!

Hey everyone! Richard here— who is ready to learn more about the Glassmaking Institute? Join us for another virtual information session on June 14, from 6-7pm! Link in bio to register. These Zoom sessions will provide attendees with a chance to learn about the program and ask questions. The Glassmaking Institute is a two-year program that will focus on furnace glassblowing, flameworking, kiln forming, and cold working processes. The program is supplemented by an in-depth curriculum covering the history of glass, contemporary practice, and professional skills. Applications will open July 1, 2024, and close November 1, 2024. The first class of the Glassmaking Institute will start September 1, 2025. Applications are open to US and international students.

“I think it always starts from an idea that starts from an experience, and something that I’ve been thinking about a lot was the idea of the medium as the metaphor. And I think when there is a concept that I want to explore, I think of what material would be best to translate that idea.
