🗣️ Escape the Dutch! Still the question lingers: safe for who? Fight or flight? More like scrutinise and ostracise. Nevermind. It’s from the pizza restaurant. Delivery person. 👁️ More pics and videos coming 🔜 Special thanks to the wonderful @cfaurby & @boraakal for being the best actors! 💐

“Escape the Dutch” is a theatrical reenactment dissecting and denouncing the dynamics of Dutch WhatsApp neighbourhood watches. I intend to lay bare and make the racialized proceedings of citizen policing experienceable, in an attempt to mediate a shift against surveillance and discrimination. By choreographing my research into a stage play, I tell the tale of a segregated neighbourhood and society, divided in the watchers and the watched, creating discomfort to make my audience question themselves about being part of the Dutch ecosystem of policing. The two actors reenact a script composed exclusively of excerpts from a real WhatsApp neighbourhood watch. Act by act, the situation escalates, laying bare the dangerous dynamics of the chat, while exaggerating the often absurd interactions of the members. Thanks again to my wonderful actors @cfaurby and @_fiodo_ 🎭❤️🍾

I’m at a crossroads, my friends! Should I escape the Escape Room concept? Here you see the last iteration of my participatory experience of my WhatsApp Neighbourhood Crime Prevention groups graduation project. We are re-enacting real incidents taken directly from a leaked WhatsApp chat. I’ve got participants on inside surveilling passersby on the outside through a security camera. The participant on the outside interacts with my specially designed props, while I’m directing the whole scene. The idea (kind of) works, but there’s still a lot to be done. What are the acts? Is it going to be more of a conventional theatre play? Will I have actual participants? What is the script? Am I the stage director? It’s all part of the process, stay tuned while I figure out the next steps 🎭

Did someone say quick and dirty prototyping? 👀 (which obviously is the best kind of prototyping). Scrolling scripture roll for the collective reading of a WhatsApp neighbourhood watch chat. 🔜 available as part of the escape room I'm developing.

Can you believe that back in the day I was doing 3D modeling and animations? Spending hours pushing around polygons, setting the perfectly timed and easy eased keyframes, or just in general sculpting away. My work ranges from scientific visualizations and animations to commissioned artistic renderings. 1. Dreamzone Accessories, commissioned renderings for @nixe_666 2. Diener 40, personal work 3. Vascular network, visualization done during my employment @quaintvisualization for Geistlich Pharma AG All visualizations done in Cinema 4D.

Hitch1 is a common space on the Dutch waterways. Inspired by Terps – ancient artificial mounds as a means of seeking refuge from floods – we build a raft emulating a Terp. Our swimming Terp is a collectively owned floating island. Everyone can use it to hitchhike through the Netherlands at no cost other than being responsible for the boat's wellbeing. The raft is managed through a Telegram group, utilizing the group’s effort to keep it in shape and most importantly to share the location for the next user. When stumbling upon the raft in the wild, one can easily join the group by scanning a QR code. The raft’s design, covered in grass, allows it to melt into the Dutch landscape, camouflaging itself. It’s also equipped with railing, imitating handrails in public transport, emphasizing routine and the short stays of users. Additionally, Hitch 1 has a metal pole system, where everyone can add tools extending and upgrading the raft. Terp Hopping - 2023 - DAE Daniel Holler, ShaoChun Hsu, Tony Li

Summer in 3 years. Heatwaves have become incessant in Europe, and barely anyone can pay their electric bill to power the air conditioning. Forest fires come closer to the cities day by day, leaving urban areas in thick smog. People try to flee to the mountains or to the north during summer, leaving gardens and other spaces empty. How do you survive these waves of extreme weather? Dig a hole, stay inside, and hope for the heat wave to pass quickly. While digging, take care of the soil and document what you find buried. Once inside the hole, get comfy. It’s cozy and cool - keep an eye on the data of your sensors to find out when you can get out again. You can monitor toxic CO2 levels outside of the hole and check the temperature and humidity inside and outside. You also measure the temperature of the soil far below ground, giving you a head start for winter so you know exactly where to dig for geothermal power and keep warm. True Digging - 2022 - DAE A project about digging holes as research and practice - trying to find out how to build a refuge to stay safe during extreme weather.
