Excavation of a Tale by Zoë Prifti @prifti.projects – An installation taking the form of a mermaid tail excavation suggests that even science can be interpreted as fiction. Below is a brief introduction to their projects:⁣ An Imaginary Playground by Barbara Vignaux @intuitivestudio_ in collaboration with Dynamo and Floris Hartfield – A film shows children re-enacting the bureaucratic process behind the creation of a playground. The Boxes in the Attic by Rosa Raaphorst @rosaraaphorst – An archive was created of a radical feminist movement from the 80s that the designer’s mother belonged to. The Ghost Fossil by Mirano Suzuki @iam_mirano – An auto-fictional short film challenges the limitations of language by investigating the enigmatic aspects of the Japanese linguistic system. Spells and spindles – a ritual for mending stories by Toni Wagner @studiohejtoni – A participatory installation invites participants to repair garments, while collectively reflecting on their personal stories, as a way to fix their bodies. For the third year in a row, De Parade @theaterfestivaldeparade collaborates with bachelor students of Design Academy Eindhoven. For this edition, during the opening tonight, students and tutors from the bachelor studio Do Make presented a speculative/performative installation. As a group, the studio has been given the opportunity to use design to create something for an uncommonly associated context. The directive was focused on the dinner. Old Man of the Sea in a World of Wounds by Jana Uhlig – The rediscovery of a prehistoric fish is narrated through a video installation that draws attention to the role of ‘monster stories’ in times of crisis. Staring at Empty Spaces by Lea Wurthmann @lea.wrth – The image-making process behind the historical Hubble Deep Field image is deconstructed to give insight into the nature of scientific endeavours. The Ebb and Flow of Chinese Female Entrepreneurship by Jiayi Ye – The social and economic impact of the Reform and Opening-up period on Chinese business women since 1978 is explored through a filmed chain-interview. Exit Night, Enter Light is a digital zine created collaboratively by the first-year master students in Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven. Over a period of three months, they conceptualized, designed and produced this document under the theme of nightmares/daydreams— the dream in all forms. It’s an upside-down project, latching on to the functionalities of The Couch but operating in a dream facade where up is down, left is right and front is back. Let your subconscious decide what you need: the absurd, surreal aesthetic of a fleshy toilet spinning in the dark or a chair melting like silicon. Or you alight upon the Korean snake dream (which pregnant people experience before giving birth) or the unknowable Malagasy monsters or the sound of snowy forest in Oslo. Or you gain access to a trip to a masc barbershop that you’d never go to; catch a snippet of Harry Belafonte singing about bananas; don armor you’re not allowed to wear. There’s more - much more.
