Miami-Dade County’s eviction deadline for #MiamiSeaquarium was Sunday, April 21, 2024, but no moving trucks were seen this weekend. As of Sunday night, the facility still sells tickets for admission on their website.⁠ ⁠ On Friday, The Miami Seaquarium’s owners (The Dolphin Company) announced intention to defy the county in federal court, seeking $35 million in damages while claiming the eviction was forced without a “lawful plan” for the animals. Good news & updates from the Umah Lumba Center!⁠ 🐢 Lucky the green sea turtle who was rescued last week continues to heal at the Umah Lumba Center's dedicated turtle hospital.⁠ 🌱 We are well on our way to our goal of planting 10,000 mangrove seedlings in Bali in 2024 in effort to protect local coastlines!⁠ 🐬 This week, our team held a marine mammal stranding response training session in West Bali. We hold these workshops periodically with local authorities and communities, to to help prepare for any stranding events.⁠ 🐒 Continued aid for local wildlife- Veterinarian Hasnaulhusna performed surgery on at rescued primate at the Umah Lumba Center. ⁠ ⁠ Our main focus at the Umah Lumba Center is on dolphin rehabilitation and re-release, and we remain vigilant for any potential dolphin rescues. BREAKING: Miami-Dade has filed a lawsuit to evict #MiamiSeaquarium . ⁠ An announcement from the Miami-Dade Mayor’s office stated “Today, Miami-Dade County filed a lawsuit to evict The Dolphin Company from the Miami Seaquarium after terminating our contract earlier this year.
