This week has been so incredibly busy! So many projects all at once. From building my site, to commissions and contracts and samples for workshop offerings like this one! This citrus scarf was made on my @ashford_wheels_looms rigid heddle loom. It’s a plaid motif (the word plaid is so weird to spell) and I love how it turned out. If you would like to make you’re own scarf I’ll be teaching this design in an intermediate rigid heddle workshop @_wildhand_ right here in Philly. Workshops post this week and I’ll link to them in my bio and stories. Can’t wait to see you there! Let’s make something magical together 🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨🌺✨🌺 #rigidheddleweaving #rigidheddleloom #rigidheddle #weavingworkshop #weavingworkshops #phillyweaving #phillyfiberart #phillytextiles #textileartist #contemporaryweaving #makeyourownclothes #makermagic #latinoweavers #yarnshop #yarn #warpandweft

Nice to meet you all! If you found yourself here you’re a lover of art and craftsmanship and enjoy watching process videos of embroidery and weaving. Or maybe you’re interested in learning a new skill (check out my workshops in my link in bio). Or maybe you’re an art collector (check out my portfolio on my website). Why ever you’re here, I’m always so grateful for this little online community. Thank you for following along on my artist path and I hope to share more work with you as I make it. #artist #textileartist #weaver #embroideryartist #rigidheddle

I will push through. I promise! But I feel like I’ve. Even threading this forever and it’s not even that complicated of a draft. I think my mind has been in embroidery mode for too long and my weaving brain hasn’t kicked in yet. This blue linen is too pretty not to finish. #weaving #weaver #loom #weavingloom #threading #woven #textileart #textileartist #phillyartist

Not textile content, just a photo dump of plants 🪴 and flowers 🌺 in my house and garden that make me happy. Grateful for a husband that try’s his hardest at gardening 🧑‍🌾 @kylemetzger_11 . I feel very lucky to have this home with him. Despite the unhinged political landscape we’re living in there will always be love and flowers 🌸. Happy Pride 🌈 everyone! #flowers #indoorplants #plants #home #nature #gardening #gaypride #pride #gayhome

Have you heard of chain stitch embroidery? It’s a type of stitching done on a hand crank operated machine that allows the user to “draw” with the threads. Each stitch is a tiny “chain” guided by the artist to create intricate designs. While it is quicker than embroidery done by hand, it’s still a slow process art form that takes time to learn. This is piece No.1 in my EMBROIDERED BOUQUET series titled “Tulips in blue striped Vase”. Follow along to see more bouquets and stitched artwork Available now @commonweal.gallery #chainstitch #embroidery #handmade #textilearts #artist #embroideryart

Embroidered Bouquet No.2 “Peonies in polka dot Vase” is all done and framed! This piece took over 20 hours to make from start to finish. I know because I watched two 1 hour long series in the background 😬(Sweet Tooth on Netflix was cool, way darker than I thought it would be). You can come check it out in person along with Bouquet No.1 “Tulips in blue Vase” this Friday @commonweal.gallery at 6pm for the “Plantasia” show inspired by the Mort Garson Album. Meet some cool folk, drink some punch, see (or maybe buy) some great art from contemporary Philadelphia artists. It’ll be a good time! Hope to see you there. #chainstitchembroidery #embroideryart #phillyartist #fiberart #textileart #queerartist #puertoricanartist

Today was a surreal. A whirlwind of emotions. Mostly grief. The closing of University of the Arts means the end of a job I know my partner @kylemetzger_11 absolutely loved. We packed up his office today and it felt so strange and sad to be doing so. Kyle cared for his students deeply, only ever wanting to help them on their path to self discovery. Thats what a good professor does. They lead. They guide. They listen and then they teach. He did that for his students and more because that’s the kind of person he is. Today you could feel how much they cared for him back, with tears in their eyes and many hugs. To not have answers is devastating. To not know what will happen next is maddening. And to know that we may never know is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry and my heart goes out to all the people affected by the sudden closing of a school that was part of so many lives. The Philly arts scene will never be the same. Things will move forward eventually and we have hope that good things are to come. But for now we will feel the feelings. I love you @kylemetzger_11 we got this. #uarts #uartsclosing

PEONIES! For bouquet # 2 in my embroidered bouquet series. Also what’s up with the closed caption in reels always transcribing wrong? I tried and failed to add them to this audio. Sorry about that. Blame the glitch gremlins. #embroidery #chainstitchembroidery #textileart #flowers #floral

The flowers are definitely blooming here in Philly and they make me so happy! I have multiple bouquets around my house right now in almost every room. Stitching some forever-tulips felt right. This is embroidery 1 “Tulips in a striped Vase” it’s part of my new “Bouquet” series. DM me for purchase. #embroidery #handmade #chainstitch #chainstitchmachine #flowers #tulips #phillyartist #queerartist

Embroidered Bouquet of tulips. This one was so much fun 🌸 Need to find it a frame though. I’m leaning toward something vintage in wood. Thinking about doing a series of bouquets! DM for purchase. #embroidery #chainstitch #phillyartist #flowers #tulips #textileart #queerfiberartist What flower bouquets should I embroider next?

We hope you enjoy this video of Isabella Akhtarshenas and Ritchie Lopez describing their collaboration—the process of forming it, challenges of learning about new materials and how they decided to focus on “home” as a grounding concept— for TEAMWERK, currently on view at COMMONWEAL. Isabella Akhtarshenas is a versatile artist and designer whose work strategically uses color and shape to evoke whimsical and lively forms. She experiments in various mediums including hand-built ceramics, mural-making, illustration, screen printing and more. While pulling inspiration from her life experiences and observations, child-like joy and wonder remain at the forefront of her creative practice. Richie Wilde Lopez is a Queer Puerto Rican Textile Artist residing and practicing his craft in the city of Philadelphia. As a hand weaver and embroidery artist he utilizes natural materials and fibers to create bespoke pieces that echo his reverence for traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Lopez is the creative force behind Duende textiles, specializing in original, contemporary fiber art tailored for discerning collectors and hospitality environments. Through his work, Lopez pays homage to the artistic legacy of his ancestors and seeks to celebrate and preserve the ever expanding definition of cultural identity as a Puerto Rican maker.

This hanging lamp is part of a collaborative series of pieces titled CRAFTED EARTH made for the new exhibition @commonweal.gallery titled TEAMWERK. In collaboration with the talented @isa__akh , we drew up a concept for our first ever lamp, incorporating both my textile art and her ceramics work. You can check out the show if you’re in Philly at Commonweal Gallery Now until June 15th. #textilearts #textileartist #raffia #ceramics #ceramicsart #gallery #phillyartist I think the two paired beautifully for this piece. What do you think. should we make more lamps?
