This painting, titled “Mars Reflection,” was painted in 1972 by Alma Thomas. Join us on the @artastrapodcast this week as Alexa and I discuss the work of Alma Thomas, her space paintings, and how this work ended up in the collection of the CIA. 📸: taken by me when this painting was exhibited in “Everything is Beautiful” at the @phillipscollection .

Happy #FossilFriday ! Did you know that Tyrannosaurus rex is closer to us in time than it is to Stegosaurus? Stegosaurus lived in the Late Jurassic period (approximately 161-146 million years ago), whereas Tyrannosaurus rex lived in the Cretaceous period, (approximately 67 million years ago). ICYMI: Apex the Stegosaurus will be on view and open to the public at @sothebys New York as part of Geek Week from July 10th - July 16th in advance of the live auction July 17th! Come visit! @hozier at Forest Hills, Unreal Unearth tour. ❤️‍🔥 It was so lovely to hear so many favorites performed live. The Unreal Unearth album was inspired by Dante’s Inferno, and it feels like there’s something new to dig into on every listen.

Over the Moon excited to explore the new Apollo missions exhibition at @intrepidmuseum with @altieri.chris and @ffurfaro this weekend. 🧑‍🚀👩‍🚀👨‍🚀🚀 An interesting highlight was a sample of communications between NASA and the Soviet space program to confirm the trajectory of the Soviet probe Luna-15 to ensure the respective spacecraft were clear of each other. These documents are the first example of the space programs collaborating with each other. It was also cool to see the discussion of civil rights activism during the Apollo era and how the fight for equal rights shaped Alabama’s “rocket city.”

5 years ago, I survived the scariest thing to ever happen to me when I had a stroke on my way home from work one day in Chicago. 5 years later, I’m so happy and lucky to celebrate full recovery and being free of any complications. I am so happy to have my health and to have had wonderful people in my corner supporting me every step of the way. ❤️

Happy International Museum Day! The International Council of Museums (ICOM) designated this day to celebrate the role museums play the world and to collaborate on facing the challenges that come with it. This year’s theme is “Museums for Education and Research.” I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to work at three different museums internationally and to have so many wonderful colleagues in museums around the world connecting audiences with knowledge and insight from their collections. Images here are from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the Library of Congress (where I learned a submission of mine was going to be published in the 2020 Museological Review), and the International Spy Museum. Swipe all the way to the end for an incredibly on brand conversation from the SPY days. 😅 Do you have a favorite museum? Let me know!

Thrilled to see some of Betsabeé Romero’s (@betsabee_romero ) work on 83rd St as part of #ArtintheParks ! Betsabeé Romero is a Mexican visual artist working in sculptures, printmaking, perforated paper, photographs and videos. She is a ‘mechanic artist’, using everyday materials to create her work, which reflects current social issues such as human migration, gender roles, and cultural traditions in a global context. These installations (and others by Romero nearby) are on view until October 2024! 📸 1: Warriors in Captivity III 📸 2: Rubber and Feathered Snakes
