Thank you to all the visitors that listened to plants during Milan design week. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my practice as the Plantslator and through that bringing us humans and plants closer together. I especially thank the Creative Industry Fund for their invaluable support in making it possible. I can’t wait to continue to explore the boundless possibilities of design and foster meaningful connections with our environment. 🌿 #milandesignweek

The Plantslator translates electric signals from plants into sound with the intention of strengthening our relationship with the natural world. Design by Eros Risiglione Photo by Carlfried Verwaayen @carlfriedverwaayenphotography Design Academy Eindhoven ‘The Plantslator’ translates electrical signals occurring within plants into sound. Eros Risiglione was inspired by the idea of communicating with a hill of special significance to him. Bio-sonification allows us to hear plants interacting with each other. Each plant has its unique patterns that produce distinct sounds, enabling us to experience the natural world in a different way. The technology behind ‘Plantslation’ has potential applications in agriculture and forestry and can reshape the way we manage natural resources. Eros hopes that we can gain a deeper understanding of how plants communicate with one another and respond to environmental changes. By listening, we can appreciate the beauty and complexity of the natural world more and strengthen our relationship with it. #DDW23 #GS23 #DAE #designacademyeindhoven #Eindhoven #biosonification #biodesign #sound #listen #plants #tools #design #dutchdesignweek #heyddw #dutchdesign

The Plantslator A project by Eros Risiglione Credits Cinematography: Luc Roes Editing: Luc Roes, Eros Risiglione Sound: Lamium maculatum (Spotted Dead-nettle), Urtica dioica L. (Stinging Nettle) With special thanks to (In alphabetical order) Arne Hendriks Colline Toutain Dean An Li Ester van de Wiel Ginevra Petrozzi Ingrid Enache Lola Gonzalez Lukas Wegwerth Luna Ortvald Marietta de Vries Paul Gödecken Placido Risiglione Robert Adolfsson Sandrijn Dekkers Siem Oosterhof The Hill plusplusplus And Mom & Dad The Plantslator is like a translator for plants. He turns their silent electrical signals into beautiful sounds. Imagine it as a way for plants to sing! Eros Risiglione came up with this idea to understand a hill that is dear to him. With the Plantslator, we can hear how plants talk to each other.
Each plant has its unique sound, revealing their hidden language. This technology isn’t just fascinating; it can revolutionize farming and forestry, changing how we care for nature. Eros hopes this helps us connect with nature, appreciating its beauty and complexity. The Plantslator lets us listen to nature’s symphony. If your interested check the link in my bio 🌱

The Hill Series - Act 1 And so it all comes together me making music with The Hill. Here you see me try the idea I’ve spend the last period working on. The sound you hear comes from the plants growing on The Hill. 📸 @wendyrisiglione 🎬 soon

Here the first time connecting plants to the Plantslator. I discovered there is a constant flow of short electrical signals being sent out by plants to other plants. The Plantslator puts out those signals to MIDI. I listen and translate the sounds into music. This results in a live performance between me and the plant. It’s sooo much fun.
