Repairing, Restoring, and Reclaiming ✨🌱💞 As you can see, two of these works are not completely woven as the mending is ongoing. These pieces are magnified versions of a technique called darning. When the threads of a woven fabric become worn or broken, you can mend the area by running stitches in perpendicular directions, weaving them as you go. Covid-19 has highlighted the great need for a mending of culture, policy and being a compassionate human. It’s a long and laborious process towards repairing and healing. Progress is continuous and a finihsed piece doesn’t need to be fully woven 🌱 These pieces will be exhibited at Gallery C3 in Charlotte, NC from Oct 2 to Nov 29 along with works by four other amazing artists. 🪱Movement in magnified textiles🪱 These body suits developed from another idea for a Social Sculpture body knitting workshop and performance • Inviting folks to co-create through a hands-on, communal engagement, constructing soft sculptures that depend on the presence of each participant to work and hold their stitch. Building on the tactile and interactive nature of my past Magnified Weavings, the process of communal body knitting becomes a tangible expression of collective effort and power. Earlier this year, @joyproject and I collaborated on an incredible performance, giving the body suits life through and dance, performed for one night at @goodyeararts and it was so so special. I’m very excited to share a new collection of work at @voltaartfairs Basel starting June 10th, with @abigailogilvy alongside two wonderful artists @alisoncroney and @mishael.art that I feel so honored to exhibit with. I hope you enjoy checking out the new work and thank you for being here 🤍 The bottom piece, in the first photo, is a new experimentation. Inflating the form of the weaving to play further with volume and depth, really pushing the textile out and away from the wall.
