“Sculptures tend to adopt a stance that mirrors that of an artist, or at least what Fischli seems to suggest: that one must arm oneself with patience; that gazing at the ceiling, and perhaps even drawing on it, is reasonable enough; that there’s an insistence on tearing paper into fragments only to meticulously piece them back together; that a deliberate counterproductivity is arguably the only acceptable form of insolence in the face of late capitalism — and particularly the kind entrenched within artistic production networks.” Hit the link in bio to read “Peter Fischli: Quality” from #001 FLASH ART VOLUMES “ANTI-COMPOSITION”. #PeterFischli #HugoBauschBelbachir #FAVOLUMES #FlashArtMagazine #FlashArtInternational #FlashArt

HOA is an artist-run gallery in São Paulo, a rare case in Brazil for its experimental, consciousness-raising program that thrives in the art market. The gallery features innovative exhibitions, grand parties, ballroom dances, and residencies for racialized artists, redefining the art scene for a new generation in the Global South. In conversation with Mateus Nunes, artist and HOA director Igi Lola Ayedun delves into the readons why she decided to create a support network for artists during the pandemic, which has since evolved into a powerful force. “In the past three or four years, there’s been more of a focus, and everything I do is merging together. My house has work everywhere. The rocks, they now belong to a space. I’ve also been working with both of my cats quite a bit. They don’t have much fur on their stomach, so they tend to secrete oil in those areas when they rest on their belly for a long time in the same spot leaving faint oil marks.” Paride Maria Calvia and Clem MacLeod discussed the artist’s practice and his different ways of experimentation. “Identity is a complicated series of relationships,” Sin Wai Kin suggests, reflecting on how their characters evolve in every work. Depending on the occasion, each identity will also oscillate from main character to NPC; Sin’s focal character for 2024 is Wai King. As Alice Bucknell writes, while the notion of the self dissolves, we also get a lens into deep-time thinking; in their film worlds, Sin creates compositions that wordlessly critique human-made systems. Diamond Stingily’s sculptural work, like a shelf of trophies or a swing set, tells personal stories with a confidence in the language of objects. Her multidisciplinary approach includes writing and acting, further showcasing her narrative skill. As noted by Whitney Mallett, sears family photos, cheerleading team pictures, and moments from her time at American Apparel, are a precision and emotional exploration. Lu Yang’s creative output is deeply rooted in and intertwined with his spiritual practice. Since 2015, the artist has been formally engaged in the Buddhist academy system, although his exposure to Buddhist teachings began much earlier through his grandmother, a devoted practitioner. As Emily McDermott states, each new work deepens the entanglement between his artistic and spiritual lives. Hit the link in bio to read “I Am a Stream of Consciousness” from 347 Summer 2024. Lu Yang’s solo exhibition “DOKU The Flow” is on view at @fondationlv , Paris until September 9, 2024. “Doku The Flow” is part of Art Basel Unlimited through June 16, 2024. #LuYang #EmilyMcDermott #FlashArt347 #FlashArtMagazine #FlashArtInternational #FlashArt
