From Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square, over 32,000 people walked the colourful march for the annual Pride In London parade that took place this past weekend in the capital 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Fronted by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, he shared why the event in support of equality has been a key staple of his premiership: “Pride is one of the highlights of my year and it is an honour to have been on every march since I was first elected as mayor in 2016,” his statement reads. Adding: “There is, however, still work to be done to achieve true equality, and as a proud ally, I’ll continue to stand side by side with our capital’s LGBTQI+ communities as we work to build a better London for all.” The day included the parade, live music performances in Trafalgar Square and throughout Soho, alongside community activities and celebrations. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ LGBTQ+ Pride Month: Pedro Almodóvar   Pedro Almodóvar, born on September 25, 1949 in Calzada de Calatrava, Spain, is a film director and screenwriter. He rose to spotlight in the 80’s with the film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) and has been a prolific writer-director since, with movies like Bad Education (2004), Volver (2006) and The Skin I Live In (2011) in his curriculum. He has won two Academy Awards, Best International Feature for All About My Mother (1999) and Best Original Screenplay for Talk to Her (2002).   LGBTQ+ issues, motherhood and identity are recurring themes on his work, where melodrama and bold colors mark him as one of the most recognizable directors of his generation.    This month we celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride and honor Pedro Almodóvar for his many achievements. Anti-tax protests resumed in Nairobi, Kenya as the country’s Parliament considers a controversial finance bill. The Kenyan Anti-riot police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse demonstrators during protests on June 25. Last week saw several days of protests, mainly by young Kenyans, against a proposed finance bill that promises to raise taxes on a variety of goods. The outcry spurred the government to withdraw several contentious provisions, including taxes on bread and vehicles, but the bill passed a second-round vote and a parliamentary committee is now considering amendments.
