Back in January I paid a visit to the legendary Audrey Flack, an artist who leapt from Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s to photorealism in the 1970s to public sculpture in the 1980s. Her new memoir and show of “timestream” paintings at Hollis Taggart tell the gripping story of her 92 years, which I attempted to sum up in 1,100 words (hard!) for vogue.com. from 1948 to 1953, lee krasner experimented widely, pivoting from one abstract style to the next. ever one to change her mind, she destroyed much of her work from this era, reusing her, and likely her husband’s, canvases for future works (see versos in last two slides!). i wrote about this lesser-known era of the extraordinary artist’s life—the subject of a new show at kasmin—for vogue dot com. read all about it at the link in b👁️o.
on a recent tuesday, we stopped by 47th street to pick up an antique ring i’d had my eye on. it fit perfectly, which i had dreamt would happen but didn’t quite believe till i slipped it on my finger. an impromptu times square proposal ensued, followed by martinis and caviar at the chelsea to celebrate. the imbibing continued over a cozy meal back in brooklyn. on days both grand and indulgent, like this one, and simple and still, jules has said he didn’t know life could be this good, this happy. i feel the same way ✨
