In Kim Kulim’s "From Creation to Extinction" (2015), a figure reads and then tears each page from a book of poems, later dispersing the papers into the sea of a listening audience. All the while, a writer transcribes each spoken word onto a blank sheet of paper, writing and writing over the words until the surface becomes unreadable. #ExperimentalArtInKorea “From Creation to Extinction" will be performed again tomorrow, December 2. Free with museum admission. First come, first served. No advance registration required. To join, meet in the exhibition gallery on Tower Level 5 at 2 pm. Plan your visit at the link in our bio.

To perform "Reading Newspapers" (1976), Sung Neung Kyung cuts out the headlines and bodies of articles from the local newspaper of that day, leaving only the masthead and a skeletal frame which he then holds up to read after every incision. #ExperimentalArtInKorea

In "Snail’s Gallop," Lee Kun-Yong traverses the floor of the gallery, squatting and marking the ground with continuous lines in a live performance at the Guggenheim. The artist contrasts this mundane act with the incremental movement of his body, by which his two feet partially erase the drawn lines as he moves through space. #ExperimentalArtInKorea

“From the Andean perspective, unspun wool is like cosmic gas where life is born, and it's wonderful that people have thought of this, and used this material as sacred for thousands of years.”—Cecilia Vicuña (@ceciliavicuna ) In this behind-the-scenes look, Vicuña installs a site-specific “Quipu” (knot) installation, building a bridge between Indigenous practice and contemporary culture. “Cecilia Vicuña: Spin Spin Triangulene” is now open. __ #CeciliaVicuña #guggenheim

World premiere—don’t miss Sin Wai Kin’s (@sinforvictory ) live performance: “the story changes the body changes (repeating)” on May 13. Conceived specifically for the museum's Peter B. Lewis Theater by the 2022 Turner Prize nominee, the performance interrogates the binaries between reality and fiction. Drawing on traditional roles in Cantonese opera, along with contemporary drag performance, the narrative will unfold through circular dialogue between two characters: “The Storyteller,” Sin’s iconic personification of the universe as a newscaster, and “Change,” a brand new being making their debut at the program. Happy birthday to Vasily Kandinsky, a pioneer of abstract art who was born #OnThisDay 155 years ago! ⠀ Kandinsky has been linked to the history of the Guggenheim more than any other 20th century painter. Hilla Rebay—artist, art advisor, and the museum’s first director—was particularly inspired by his work and writing. As a result, the Guggenheim collection contains more than 150 works by Kandinsky, many of which are on view in our current rotunda exhibition, “Vasily Kandinsky: Around the Circle.” ⠀ This past fall, New York-based Trinidadian drummer, composer, and musician Zane Rodulfo (@zanerodulfo ) created a jazz composition, “Around the Circle,” inspired by Kandinsky’s practice and spiritual beliefs. In this video, get to know Rodulfo and experience the song in full. ⠀ “Vasily Kandinsky: Around the Circle” is on view through September 5, 2022—click the link in our bio to plan your visit. ⠀ __ #VasilyKandinsky #ZaneRodulfo #KandinskyAroundTheCircle #Guggenheim

💡 Ever wondered how a hologram is made? You’ll find the answer in holography artist Matthew Schreiber’s (@matthewschreiberart ) Brooklyn, NY studio. Filled with everything from a smoke-activated laser incense burner (you read that right), to a full-fledged hologram studio, Schreiber’s space is at once magical and technical. ⠀ Most recently, Schreiber collaborated with Deana Lawson on the holograms featured in her exhibition “The Hugo Boss Prize 2020: Deana Lawson, Centropy,” which is on view through Monday, October 11—click the link in our bio to plan your visit before it closes. ⠀ __ #DeanaLawson #HugoBossPrize

“Filmmaking, for me, is about that collaborative process. It’s about trying to tune into the people I’m working with and think about what I could do, or how my skills could be used to create a platform for what they do.” —Wu Tsang (@wu_tsang ) ⠀ Wu Tsang’s new commission “Anthem” was conceived with the legendary singer, composer, and transgender activist Beverly Glenn-Copeland (@beverlyglenncopeland ), and revolves around an immense, 84-foot curtain sculpture. Projected onto this luminous textile is a “film-portrait” Tsang created of Glenn-Copeland improvising and singing passages of his music. ⠀ Experience the magic of “Anthem” through September 6—click the link in our bio to plan your visit. ⠀ __ #WuTsang #BeverlyGlennCopeland #GuggenheimCollection #Guggenheim
