PGC #MondayMasterpiece✨ 🇬🇧 One of thirteen canvases painted by Max Ernst between 1935 and 1937 on the same theme, “The Entire City” (1936–37) depicts a strange and ruinous cityscape overtaken by lush vegetation. This version, acquired by Peggy from the artist in 1941, is the largest of the series and one of two final iterations of the work. Partially inspired by Ernst’s trip to Southeast Asia in 1924, where he saw both the dense jungles and ancient temples of Angkor Wat, the abandoned city before us calls forth a lost kingdom ravaged by man or nature over the passage of time. As the sun rises over this city one wonders what happened to it, who lived here, and if life will ever return to it or whether it will instead continue to decay. . 🇮🇹 Tra le tredici tele dipinte da Max Ernst negli anni 1935-37 sullo stesso tema, "La città intera" (1936-37) raffigura uno strano e rovinoso paesaggio urbano sovrastato da una vegetazione lussureggiante. Acquisita da Peggy Guggenheim nel 1941, quest’opera è la più grande della serie e una delle due versioni finali. PGC #MondayMasterpiece ✨ 🇮🇹 Paul Klee sognò per molto tempo l’estate, specialmente quella trascorsa in Sicilia nel 1924 🌞 È proprio lì che l’artista si lascia ispirare dalla bellezza del paesaggio mediterraneo, con i suoi colori e profumi, per realizzare una serie di acquerelli come “Ritratto di Frau P. nel Sud” (1924): una bonaria caricatura di un impeccabile signora del nord che cerca di proteggersi dal forte sole con un assurdo cappellino e un velo.
