Thank you🧡got such a privilege to work with amazing people with kind and creative minds! Very cute trophy was a bonus🌟 #Repost @berlinartprize with @let.repost • • • • • • AND THE WINNERS ARE... WINNER Hana Yoo 💫 Anxiety is tangible for those entering the room orchestrated by this artist. Their intelligent transformation of the space draws the visitor’s eye to the video works. While seeking to address the discomfort of living under an authoritarian regime, the work nevertheless preserves empathy for the film’s main subjects: rats. “I kept unlooking,” remarked one jury member. This artist’s finely-calibrated provocations inform the jury’s decision to award her the 2022 Berlin Art Prize. This friday-sunday is the last weekend to see the exhibition! Next Friday there will be finissage party and the end💥 - Elbow Room💪 Hana Yoo’s overarching thesis, questions the complex power system of hierarchical positions through storytelling. Through two video works, the exhibition Elbow Room establishes itself as a provocation: What defines our identity and how is it being manipulated? Bare Life (2021), a loosely structured narrative film, introduces “the place” through a vague description of a prison and a first hand experience of an escape story. The artist intercuts the anonymous testimony with non sequential archival footage – amateur videos of air gun demonstrations, and technical videos of testing labs which use AI technology in order to detect pain in rats. The obscure pairing between the rat and the refugee demonstrates an ironic but critical tone which examines their possible connection nevertheless set in different reality spheres. Comparatively, Your freedom song (2022) is a satirical representation of a popular Korean youtuber following her role as a patriotic figure of South Korean political values. As an escapee of “the place”, the online star triggers a sense of tension while setting side to side the military and strategic capacities of both countries. The exhibition Elbow Room should be seen as a continuous loop of anxiety and discomfort, where both realities are complemented and differing simultaneously: a double sided representation of the present context in South Korea. I’m pleased to screen the latest film ‘Anatomy Class Chap.2(2023)’ in EXiS @exisfestival – Experimental Film&Video Festival Seoul, Korean competition.🥁 The 21st EXiS will be held in the Korea Film Archive and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea. Happy to see old faces, see you in Seoul!🖤 최근작 '해부학 수업 챕터.2'가 서울 실험영화제 한국경쟁으로 참여하게 되었습니다. 서울에 계신분들, 만나요! - Anatomy Class (Chap.2) weaves recollections of three individuals who underwent a frog dissection experiment during their youth in a science class. Simultaneously, it juxtaposes these stories with the distorted archive materials, creating an exploration of the dissonance and nature of violence that arises from such arbitrary ‘dissection of images’. - Special special thanks to the interviewees @studiocharlie @molliepoleary and JiHyun Park🙏🙏🙏

I'll be presenting 2 works at the University of Copenhagen next week. If anyone is around, let me know! Last day to register✌ - Widely used generative text-to-image applications enable aesthetic creation through the employment of deep learning and neural networks, translating prompts of concepts and descriptions into visual representations. As the volume of AI-generated image content surpassed the total number of images captured during the first 150 years of photography within just a year and a half (Everypixel Journal 2023), we can fathom the profound implications AI has on art and visual culture.  In this seminar, we want to engage with the assumption that AI generators of visual content merely reproduce the visuality already present in the underlying datasets, and ask: How can aesthetic practices critically engage with generative AI-technologies? Responding to this challenge, the seminar will explore questions relating to critical aesthetic practices with machine learning: How can generative AI technologies be imagined, deconstructed, and exposed through critical aesthetic practices? How can artistic practices with AI technologies reveal the conditions and effects of generative machine learning technologies, including the imbalances of power, access, and extraction they entail? How might aesthetic diversity, ambiguity, and autonomy be upheld through the generative processes of these technologies? The seminar is structured around presentations by a researcher and two artists who critically work with and through AI technologies: Ariana Dongus @arianadongus , Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm, and Hana Yoo. Their practices will provide inroads to the emerging interdisciplinary research field of Critical AI. To participate, please register by 7 May 2024 by email: tst@hum.ku.dk

🌚TANU – 우주universe · 건강health · 고래whale · 령anima🌚 single channel video, HD, stereo, color, 10’40’’, 2023 A mystical being emerges from the depths of the river and sea, traversing the monumental landscapes of the city. In response to a controversial proposal by a far-right politician advocating for the privatization of the sea and whales under the guise of 'saving' them, the project 'Tanu' manifests slow resistance against extractivism and ecocide. Tanu is re-imagined female figure inspired by spiritual rite of Selk’nam, an indigenous group from southern Patagonia(Tierra del Fuego). They were known to deeply connect with cetaceans, especially because finding a stranded whale conveys their temporary settlement and therefore a new generation. They are now considered extinct as a tribe, due to gold mining and the excessive farming in the 20th Century which led to genocide of the Selk'nam. Tanu's path eventually intersects with Malón de la Paz (Peace Incursion), an indigenous sit-in protest group from northwestern Argentina, Jujuy and Salta. This region is marked by large-scale lithium mining operations that have inflicted severe environmental contamination. Their 77 years of fight to reclaim their land continues with the spirit of Pachamama. The narrative rewinds through five posters, portraying Tanu's emergence as if it were an activist leaflet, yet revealing their binary points. The sixth poster takes inspiration from a poem by Kim Hye Sun (South Korea, 1955), turning a political voice into an imaginative space, exploring spheres between art and activism. 💙🤍🐠 Created within "Art Residency Program Abroad" from Arts Council Korea @arkokorea and @proyectoace

This friday there will be an opening: UNBLACKBOXING at the Einstein Center Digital Future. I'll be showing 'Arbitrary Radius Circle(2021)' which speculatively examines the intersection of reinforcement machine learning and popular behavioral psychology - raising questions about the nature of artificiality, as well as the invisibility of animals in labs and their unrecognized labor. 🐭 - Contributing artists and activists are Kim Albrecht, Sarah Grant, Adam Harvey, Joana Moll Julian Oliver, Juan Pablo García Sossa, Danja Vasiliev, and Hana Yoo. The exhibition is curated by Daniel Irrgang (University of Copenhagen) and organized in collaboration with Friedrich Schmidgall and Gesche Joost (Einstein Center Digital Future). The opening event will be accompanied by the presentation of “Weak Signals”, a publication project by Lukas Freireiss and Florian Hadler. Resonating with the exhibition themes, the book examines the nexus between the arts, science, and technology as a source of shifting paradigms. Einstein Center Digital Future Wilhelmstraße 67, 10117 Berlin Opening: October 13, 2023, 17:00–20:00
