Building Letters Workshop "We had the pleasure of being invited by Anastasia Kubrak @coubraque to lead a Graphic Design workshop for the A House For Home program @ahouseforhome . This programme serves as an architectural lab for Ukrainian teenagers currently residing in the Netherlands. Throughout the program, students grapple with questions such as: What is the meaning of home, if you find yourself far from your house? And what kind of homes do we want to (re)build for our dreams? Using these inquiries as a starting point, our workshop, "Building Letters," explored typographic forms in both the Ukrainian and Latin alphabets. Students delved into hands-on experimentation with printing techniques, employing different alphabets and letters to construct architectural elements.“ Don't miss seeing the final exhibition of aHOUSEforHOME from the entire course on June 22 at Bright Cooperative in Amsterdam!

Had the pleasure to design the catalogue as well as the identity for last year graduation show together with @whywhynot.space . The 2023 Graduation Catalogue documents both Bachelor and Master graduates and their projects. The cover design is based on a flexible visual system which visualises the fluid connections between individual and collective actors within the academy. The catalogue is supplemented with a Community Glossary which helps readers to navigate the more than 200 projects. Each graduate was asked to share three words that describe their project, with the possibility to also use non-English words and expressions. It therefore also works as an infographic, as the reader can see how many graduates chose the same or similar words and how these terms are reflected in their project. Additionally, graduates were given the opportunity to add pronouns, non-Latin alphabet names, and their personal definitions of their professions on their catalog spreads.

For Milan Design Week 2024 we continued working on the project ‘Pressing Matters’, this time finding the form of a functional outdoor shower in the exhibition ‘The Dutch Embassy of Living’ curated by @pro.zaziliae at @dopo.space . Along with other installations and objects our shower addressed the housing crisis and dwelling displacement happening in Milan and Europe. This culminated in an intervention using experimental printing techniques on recovered objects found throughout the city of Rotterdam.

One from the archive: Publication—The Crowded Sea How can one attain a personal comprehension of something seemingly distant, yet intimately connected by ecological and geopolitical challenges? The publication 'The Crowded Sea' uses the North Sea as a case study and analyses the area from different perspectives. Through field trips, interviews and archival footage it sheds light on the different perspectives one can have—perceiving the sea as a territory, area of conflict, urbanized body of water, as illustration, as cartographic representation, as place of ownership, and a site of interconnectdness 🐠 Personal project Format 120x190 Printed with Offsetdruckerei Karl Grammlich (@grammlich_buch.one )

I had the opportunity to continue my research on soil-inks by making some postcards for "The Women Gather" event during International Women’s Day last Friday—organized by @___eat_your_feelings___ , hosted by @nieuweinstituut . It was a pleasure to contribute my prints Ro tijd event and be part of an inspiring evening consisting of songs, performances, films, and food. The soil was collected from the Nieuwe Instituut garden, then ground using various processes and converted into an ink suitable for screen printing. The postcards are thus tangible imprints of the place’s natural habitat and serve as a carrier for an excerpt from the poem “The Women Gather” by Nikki Giovanni. Thanks to @alinaturdean for making this happen!

On the racks made of willow branches hang canvases with images and quotes about women's lives with the Dutch peat landscape. The exhibition "Vrouwen en het veen" (Women and the Peat) serves as a platform for these stories. It contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of climate and landscape related issues, by transcending binary divisions. The exhibition's layout draws inspiration from the "Bleekweide," a historical meadow where women once brought freshly laundered clothes to dry and bleach in the sun, claiming their space in the public domain. Through the reinterpretation of textiles and their placement side by side, a new context for dialogue emerges. Incorporating soil-based inks serves as a means to convey these stories and establish a more tangible connection between the stories and the materiality of the landscape itself. "Vrouwen en het veen" is now on display at Arti et Amicitiae (Rokin 12, Amsterdam), until 8th of October. Collaboration with @ketterenco (Carine Middeldorp, Emma Schep, Hannah Sweering, Irene Fortuyn, Roland Smit) Supported by @stimuleringsfonds Images exhibition: Maarten Nauw Archive image: Fotocollectie Elsevier, Marktplein van Grouw, Friesland, 1929

Over the last few months I have been working with @ketterenco on a new research project that investigates how stories about living with the Dutch peatlands can be made visible. Soils from the landscape serve as carriers for these stories. Several experiments in making soil-based inks were carried out for this purpose. Different types of soil, such as peat and clay, were collected, which were then ground in different processes and prepared for screen printing. Thanks to the generous support by @stimuleringsfonds
