After fire 🔥 7, 8, 9: some pictures after and before blablablaaa About: The project ‘Masks’ is about fascination with identity and the ease with which we, society, can modify it in this era. In both real life and online (on social media), we can easily portray ourselves in a certain way. What are your thoughts 💭?

Almost a year ago, my marble chair, Freddy Marbic, arrived at the Rietveld Academy. As time passes, I realize more and more how incredibly hard I worked to make this project a success in time for graduation. In just 6 months, I transformed a sketch into a marble reality, and trust me, it was quite the challenge. A valuable lesson I learned during graduation is that very few people truly want you to succeed. So please make sure you surround yourself with true love and support!! ❤️🔥 1: Freddy Marbic arriving at the Rietveld academy 🖼️ 2. Rien & my family helping me out lifting 600kg 🪑 3. First sketch ✍️ 4. Creating a 1:1 3D sketch for the measurements of Freddy with foam 5. Carrara, marble heart of Italy 6. Carrara 😻 7. Very exciting to see what’s inside the block of marble 8. Yeehees, everything perfect 👌🏽 9. Before polishing 10. Signed sealed delivered, done deal

Title: You are adorable Series: behind the mask Editions: 9 Price: upon request To stay in the subject “its not what it seems like” I created these new works. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and social media, discerning reality from illusion grows ever more challenging. We navigate a complex landscape of layers, filters, and masks, each obscuring the truth in unique ways. Artist Hanne Arends delves into this contemporary dilemma through her latest project. She crafts handmade ceramic masks, traditionally an emblem of concealment, and transforms these three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional photographic artworks. This series seeks to unveil the often hidden masks we wear, prompting a deeper examination of authenticity in our digitally saturated age. The project invites viewers to reflect on what lies beneath the surface in a world where appearances may not always be what they seem.

New photography series “Behind the Mask” by Hanne Arends Come visit the Pop Up Gallery Dates: 3 - 10th of May Opening time: 10AM to 7PM Location: Singel 412, Amsterdam About What happens when someone’s identity fades away and that person becomes anonymous? Will they behave differently because there are no consequences attached? Is that then the most honest version of oneself because you are no longer pigeonholed by your surroundings? It is an interesting dilemma that Hanne wanted to illuminate in a simplistic, almost humorous way with the series “Behind the Mask”

From sketch to reality It all started with a simple drawing and an idea to create big, bold sculptures that show how I feel about today’s individuals. That dream became reality when I decided to move my studio outside (inside there was no suitable space due to the toxic air) and started making these huge foam sculptures. It was cold, and wearing a tight gas mask all the time wasn’t really pleasant, but it was so worth it. I learned a ton from this process, and seeing the finished sculptures is the best part. Exhibiting my art and hearing how it makes people feel is amazing.
