Thanks to Scott Reyburn for featuring Hypha Studios in the @nytimes ! "A London-based nonprofit takes empty commercial spaces and offers them as studios.  “I’m against empty space,” said Camilla Cole, the founder of Hypha Studios, a London-based nonprofit that persuades commercial landlords to let artists work and exhibit for free in unoccupied stores and offices" "Allowing artists to infuse life into these vacant commercial spaces, even on a temporary basis, has become one way landlords can address the issue" Do check it out via our stories or on our website as it's behind a paywall! #readallaboutit #newyorktimes #freespaceforartists

Thanks to everyone that joined us for the opening of ‘I, Present’ curated by Veronica Revuelta Congrats to the curator and all the featured artists @theactivistcurator 🎉🥂💯 📍 Unit 3. Euston Tower. 286 Euston Road. NW1 3DP 🗓NOW OPEN: 28th June - 2nd August Thursday - Sunday 12 – 6pm 💬 A group exhibition exploring climate emergency through the senses, sustainability, and action. The Climate Emergency is telling us to stop, re-think, and see our surroundings differently. Reconnect, be grounded, step forward. The Climate Emergency needs action! The same action when the sensorial methodology is applied in the arts. How many times have you touched an artwork? How do you engage beyond the sign of seeing? Why do we find ourselves so restrictive? Your body takes a new meaningful process through movement and engagement when your senses are involved. You are having a global perception, you are learning, and that is because you are present. This exhibition explores the Climate Emergency and its dimensions and effects while learning about it with the involvement in, with, and through art, making suggestions to create links between disciplines to support meaning-making and metaphors and bring in a wider solution for climate change. Most of the artwork, installation, and design has been made with recycled, sustainable, and pre-loved materials promoting sustainable and ethical practices as a way of continuous life cycle. The exhibition showcases a group of emerging and established artists exploring different art forms and mediums but finding a common ground through a multicultural and sustainable bridge between India, UK, Spain, and Ecuador: 👤 Poojan Gupta (created_poojangupta), Ekta Bagri (@ceramica_ekta ), Encaramadas (@en_cara_madas ), Mahim Jana (@copper_labor ), Nastre (@nastre.in ), Gareth Jones (@gareth.c.jones ), Kate Shorey (@kate.shorey ), Jamie Pazmino (@jamie_pazmino ), and Molly Macleod (@mollymacleodstudio 📸 by @carlozambon Kindly supported @britishlandplc in partnership with @hyphastudios and London Climate Action Week

📣 HYPHA PRESENTS — “Dancing About Architecture” Curated by @leejohnsonstudio 🗓 Private View: Friday, 19th July, 6 – 9pm 📍Hypha Gallery East Village 50 Celebration Avenue, Stratford E20 1DB 🎟 RSVP via Eventbrite or link in bio In partnership with @wearegetliving 💬 ABOUT Dancing About Architecture is an exhibition designed to engage the audience in a physical confrontation with art objects in a way that isn’t simply ‘a show’, but more akin to walking down a back alley and stumbling across evidence of recent human activity – including elements of intrigue, delight, repulsion, fear and beauty. The title refers to the oft-quoted maxim that “writing about music is like dancing about architecture”. The origin of the quip has never been verified but is often attributed to Frank Zappa, who despised music journalists writing about his music. But this show focuses on music critic Robert Christgau’s criticism of the phrase when he said “one of the many foolish things about the fools who compare writing about music to dancing about architecture is that dancing usually is about architecture.” Dancing About Architecture brings together 27 artists whose work brings the physicality of the space into their work, and the physicality of their work into the space “whether they mean to or not”. Dancing About Architecture demonstrates that nothing is ever in isolation, that everything is connected in some way, and everything will influence – or be influenced by – its environment. 📣 Hypha Presents — “Rinse and Repeat” curated by Alamelu Annamalai and Meghana Gavireddygari Featured show in our Launch Party opening 28th June 📍Gallery Two: 107 High Street, Sugar House Island, Stratford, E15 2RB 🗓 Private View: Friday 28th June, 2024, 6 — 9pm 🎟 RSVP via Eventbrite or link in bio In partnership with @sugarhouseisland Drinks by @jimandtonicdistillery 💬 ‘Rinse and Repeat’ brings together a group of eight Indian women artists living and working in London. Works on view include a diverse range of media including sculpture, print, painting, installation, fibre, video and performance. Speaking to larger themes of place and belonging, the exhibition space is framed as an active site for collective reflection and reinterpretation. References to repetition and labour echo across works and the public programme, inviting visitors to contemplate on rhythms and cycles in everyday life. The artists’ practices draw on physical and temporal distances from homeland, examining layered and intersectional aspects of identity. Annamalai reinterprets traditional art forms in a contemporary context. Gavireddygari investigates childhood memory through painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Ladha’s art navigates social, political, and ecological landscapes. Mehra utilises ethnographic research in her video practice, touching on labour and material culture. Sellamuthu explores cross-cultural hierarchies through relief paintings and sign making. As a textile artist, Sharma works with themes related to diaspora and displacement. Vaidyanath’s text and textile work archive the intangible, intrinsic, sometimes contradictory process of repetition. Vora’s conceptual work references the spatial fabric of the city - its rituals, processes and imagery. 👤 Artists: @alamelu24 @meghana.art @shivangiladhastudio @smriti_mehra @vasusell @divyasharmastudio @asha.vaidyanath @darshanavoraartist 🥁 Events: TBA via Eventbrite.
