Very much looking forward, safe the date Opening 5.07.2024 FORT biennale_01 In the Body of Language Im Körper der Sprache Nel corpo del linguaggio Curated by Ulrike Buck @ulrike_buck_ & Margareth Kaserer @margarethkaserer Design by @studio.bruno Logo @katharina_theresa_mayr Location @festung_franzensfeste With Altınstark, Özlem Altın, Ellinor Aurora Aasgard & Zayne Armstrong, Gianfranco Baruchello, Alighiero Boetti, melanie bonajo, bruno books Venezia, Alexandra Cardenas, Max Castlunger, Carlfriedrich Claus, Roberta Dapunt, Tracey Emin, Sylvie Fleury, Julia Frank, Chiara Fumai, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Siggi Hofer, Hannes Hölzl, Roni Horn, Brigitte Kowanz, Sophia Mairer, Beatrice Marchi, Nadja Verena Marcin, Maurizio Nannucci, Bruce Nauman, Masatoshi Noguchi, Sunny Pfalzer, Caroline Profanter, Egon Rusina, Toni Schmale, Berty Skuber, Lawrence Weiner, Karin Welponer, Jörg Zemmler. In the Body of Language Im Körper der Sprache Nel corpo del linguaggio describes in three languages an environment that is explored with this art biennial and at the same time the state of our existence in the impossibility of separating the spiritual from the physical. Even if language is ultimately limited to a translation of inner experience and cognition, the communicable part of our experience and understanding of the world can be expressed in it. Language is a means of participation and has revolutionary potential. It builds worlds within us and around us, creates connections and demarcations. At the same time, it is alive and in constant motion - it reflects the political and social upheavals of our time. #inthebodyoflanguage #fortbiennale01 #contemporaryart #artbiennale 06.07.-10.11.2024

TEMPERAMENT is the subtle dance between passion and patience, a delicate balance that often characterises artists. In the field of art and culture, respect for one’s craft is paramount, combined with a strong work ethic that goes beyond mere talent. In this field, however, artists often struggle not only with the demands of their work, but also with the pervasive influence of a system based on privilege and inequality. As protagonists of their own stories, artists operate in a landscape where their vulnerability is often exploited, particularly by the ingrained power dynamics of individuals. This toxic hierarchy, reinforced by privilege, imposes unrealistic expectations and norms on artists, often overshadowing their creativity with oppressive demands. Yet in the midst of this adversity, artists persevere and challenge the status quo through their defiance and resilience. They create spaces of authenticity and integrity and refuse to be silenced or belittled by the forces of patriarchy and manipulation. Through their art, they confront societal norms and illuminate the insidious ways in which privilege and power work together to marginalise and oppress. By advocating for a respectful work ethic, artists demand recognition not only for their labour, but also for their humanity. They strive for an environment where creativity can flourish without the shackles of power and discrimination. Through their perseverance and courage, they are paving the way for a future in which the arts are a beacon of inclusivity. 🚨 be aware 🚨Colleagues, Fellows, Friends safe yourself the trouble : #galerie _kandl #workethics #arts #culture #forestoftemperament #artistsupport #hierarchy #contemporaryart #resilience #respect #creativity #language #attitude

FOREST OF TEMPERAMENT The works are an ode to the ability and power of reconstruction. Here, dichotomy and resilience serve as the essence of transformation, forming a visual metamorphosis through the synthesis of traditional and new techniques. Each individual work is based on a selected pair of images from Frank‘s image archive, which serves as a co-operative formal element. The image transfer of the colourless photographs onto a layer of wax on cotton fabric is achieved through the processual use of heat as a transfer tool. pic 1 exhibition view, Forest of Temperament (2024) photo by #annametton @annaultima pic 2 shattered (2024) photographic print on wax, oil pastel, cotton, wood 1400 x 1400 x 20 mm pic 3/4 details, shattered/ballade, Forest of Temperament (2024) pic 5/8 exhibition view, Forest of Temperament (2024) pic 6 equality, 2024 photographic print on wax, oil pastel, cotton, wood 1400 x 1400 x 20 mm pic 7 detail, equality (2024) 📍@galerie_kandl Kandlgasse 12, 1070 #vienna 👁️ Tues.-Sat. 18:00-21:00 🗝️ or on appointment 📲 #newcollection #forestoftemperament #contemporaryart #art #exhibition #hybridcontemporaryart #newideas #newart #newspace #femaleartist #queerartist #etc

FOREST OF TEMPERAMENT could be reminiscent of an unknown forest in which each tree represents a different mood. One encounters trees that radiate tranquillity, others that are shrouded in melancholy, and still others that are full of mystery. Each approaching step is a journey into the complexity of the human temperament, a navigation through the green depths of our inner landscape. … pic 1/2 casa (2024) photographic print on wax, oil pastel, cotton, wood 1400 x 1400 x 20 mm pic 3/4 (details) essentia existentia, casa, gender (2024) photographic print on wax, oil pastel, cotton, wood 1400 x 1400 x 20 mm pic 5/6 (detail/ exhibition view) essentia existentia, (2024) pic 7 nova, 2024 photographic print on wax, oil pastel, cotton, wood 1400 x 1400 x 20 mm 📍 @galerie_kandl Kandlgasse 12, 1070 #Vienna 👁️ Tues.-Sat. 18:00-21:00 📳 for in person meetings, please PM #contemporaryart #intersectionalfeminism #newwork #transformation #mixedmedia #unconfentional #hybrid #medium #vienna #juliafrank #time #space #voice #poetry #artwork

When Vincenzo, the gallery owner, contacted me, he asked me about a previous work of mine. Revier, an immersive intervention in Mz Baltazar’s laboratory, where the space was transformed into a chicken coop where 7 white chickens, former laying hens from a factory farm, found a new habitat. Sometimes words fail me when I look back on this time, this year. This was my first opportunity to present my work to the Viennese public after/during the pandemic. I am grateful for the opportunity Patricia Reis and the entire Baltazar lab team gave me. This time felt crazy in every way, but it was also the first time my parents were able to interact in an artistic process. They experienced a hard-working farming childhood and an adult life. During construction, they would call me and explain how I could build this or that element of the chicken coop, while I kept my health condition a secret from them to protect my mother’s mental health. In the phone calls, I described to my parents the reasons why chickens are a symbol of motherhood, provider, nurturer and why even more far-reaching reasons should sensitize us to rethink. Safe the date and join us for the inauguration 🫶 Friday 12 April, 2024, 6-8pm @vinvinvienna 04.12.2024 Martin Hotter, Maria Köfler, Viola Leddi, Gabriele Napoli, Dino Zrnec, Julia Frank 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓

: In fields once lush, now barren, lie, Where laughter once soared, now silent sky. Children’s dreams, like petals, scattered, by the cruel hand of war, shattered. Innocence robbed, in shadows they roam, Lost in the chaos, far from home. Their tiny hands once held so tight, Now clutch at echoes in the night. Each tear that falls, a silent plea, For peace to reign, for hearts to see. For no child should know the price of strife, Or face the horror of a broken life. Yet still they’re gone, their voices hushed, In the aftermath, in the silence crushed. Let us remember, let us vow, To end the sorrow, to end it now. For every child lost to war’s cruel game, Let us speak their names, let us reclaim, A world where innocence can thrive, And children’s dreams forever alive. author anonymous, 2024 Pearl, 2024 mixed media on cotton 136 x 136 cm

Why does International Women’s Day matter? Because we’re not there yet. IWD is a day to recognise how far we’ve come towards gender equality, and also how far we have left to go. Back in 1911, only eight countries allowed women to vote, equal pay for equal work was unheard of – if women were allowed to work at all – and reproductive rights were non-existent. “While the increasing violence against women, lesbians, migrant women and girls and femicides are reaching unbearable levels, women are often additionally affected by poverty and economic dependence. The oppression and exploitation of women is an integral part of the capitalist social order. A strong women’s movement is crucial in the fight against patriarchal structures. Together against violence, militarization and and and.” (8maerz.at) ✊✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 pic.1 gender, 2024 mixed media 136 x 136cm pic. 2 equality, 2024 mixed media 136 x 136 cm pic. 3+4, international women’s development agency pic. 5, @niunamenos.austria ✊✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 💜💜💜💜💜💜 #iwd2024 #inspireinclusion #womensequality #revolution #breakthebias #choosetochallenge #eachforequal #girlpower #internationalwomensday #womenempowerment #womensupportingwomen #feminist #womensday #femaleartists #queerartist #flinta
