I 🖤 painting on this dreamy face. This was @sadiesink_ before leaving for last night’s #strangerthings event. I decided to have fun with the liner + give it a higher outer edge point of lift-off than what i generally do. I love what it did for her eyes and for the overall look. A little quirky and not so expected. Since so many of you wrote me after reading yesterday’s post, asking how to figure out the placement of the shadow for your smokey eye, here’s another example of a matte smokey - perfect for summer - brown + taupe (taupe is a mix of brown and grey) eye look; this one I did on the beautiful @mingey . Because every eye + brow shape is different, and every skin tone and shade is different, your placement + your shade choices will be uniquely yours, but this look and so many others I’ve shared on models and actresses over the years can help guide you as to where to start. If you feel totally lost, first start by tapping a small, dome shaped brush into your eyeshadow and then systematically begin pressing it along/behind your top and bottom lashes, staying close to the lash line. Use another brush that allows you to buff + blend the shadow along so it’s diffused evenly. Take some selfies in very good light and assess. Remember it helps to curl and mascara your lashes after you apply your shadow because otherwise you’ll be fighting them for access to fully view your eyelid skin. Do you think there’s an age limit on certain makeup looks? I don’t. It’s so much about personal preference, what looks ‘good’, or ‘right’, on each face, and how someone feels in it. I love how a thick black eyeliner looks on @judithlight , and she can’t get enough of a pop of pink on her cheeks. Would this work on every woman in her 70’s? No, definitely not. It might make one person feel like it’s masking their natural beauty, and for someone else it wouldn’t be enough of a look. Makeup and the overall aesthetic we choose for ourselves is highly individualistic. The way I paint eyeliner on one client is different from how I apply it on another, and if you’re wondering how to try something new on yourself, it’s really all about trying something you see on someone else- someone’s pic on instagram, in a magazine, someone you pass on the street - and assessing for yourself whether you like how it looks on you, and making tweaks to it if you don’t. Once I added cateye wings to the ends of Judith’s eyeliner and stood back, looked at the overall look, and immediately took them off. It just didn’t look right. As makeup artists we’re so used to this kind of process- the act, for example, of placing blush high on the cheek, vs lower, to see what it does to the overall shape of the face. But it’s something anyone can and should do, particularly as we go through the years. The same makeup products and how you put them on should change - if for no other reason, than just to keep things interesting. The placement of eyeshadow and blush, highlight, and contour, and even the shape we enhance our lips to become with lipstick or liner - these are all things to be reevaluated as our faces, and popular culture trends, change. All of the above aside- I love this woman so much. This is the 9th year I’ve been lucky enough to call her a client, and a really important loved one in my life. I’ve never mentioned it on social, but Judith was instrumental in my relationship with @jumpindog . Unsure if you can wear bright pink lipstick for summer? You definitely can. These 2 shades of creamy lip + cheek crayons from @ereperezcosmetics are super pigmented, which means a little goes a long way, and the product itself is housed in a wooden pencil and capped with a metal top, making them one of the most eco-friendly products around. They’re also one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE textures when it comes to intensely -pigmented lip crayons and lipsticks that are currently available @thedetoxmarket . You can tap them onto cheeks or lips for a light wash of color or do as my beautiful friend @reneeloizmakeup and I did above and use them to their full pigment-impact effect. Each shade from this range of crayons has become a staple in my work kit and on my face, and truly are among my very top recommendations of lip color products. Part 1 I’m a big fan of wearing mixed metals - as in both gold and silver. I do love doing it with jewelry, but here I’m specifically talking about doing it with makeup. It’s so good for every season, and for summer I think playing with sheer washes of soft gold and bold silver liner along your lash line is such an easy and fun way to do it. I met the drop dead gorgeous @avawelsingk (hello beauty campaigns- you should all be hiring her) @thedetoxmarket ’s House Of Detox event and had so much fun painting on her face, and getting to know her. For every day life, I’m not a fan of a many-step makeup look, and judging by the questions I’m asked by many of you, you’re not either. This look was quick and easy and works for every skin tone. It’s been such a great year of welcoming new brands into the world of Clean Beauty in the US market and Sweed has quickly risen to the top. I had the best day last week at ✨The House Of Detox✨event showing everyone who came through just how pretty -and super easy to apply - the whole Sweed line is. I never thought I’d be excited over a powder foundation, but this one is like nothing else I’ve ever tried. It’s so luminous and blurring of pores and spots… so good that now I’m wearing it nearly every day. (My shade is ‘light’) I wish I’d hit record again after I handed @miarandria the lip crayon. I wanted to show you all the last touches I did to finish the look- with mascara application, more lash curling, lip liner, and more bronzing - but she had just had a scalp analysis + treatment by the @innersenseorganicbeauty team and I grabbed my phone to look up one of the products she’d mentioned.
