“Please God Give Me a Sign”, Hand dyed cotton, appliqué, hand quilted, 39 in. x 50 in, 2022
All fabric is hand dyed and hand painted. I also used a technique with screen printing ink directly onto the pieced quilt top.
I decided to hand quilt this one after seeing the incredible quilts of @heidi.parkes and watching some of her ‘how to’ videos on how to hand quilt. I highly recommend checking out her work!!

We are excited to announce Katie Curry @katieleighcurry is exhibiting in MATERIAL INSTINCT, curated by Makiko Harris @makikoharris and Rebecca Kaufman @rebecca___kaufman . We have a special preview dinner on March 15 (ticket link in bio) and the public opening reception on March 16!
STATEMENT
I view my work as rebellion. Rebellion against the preconceived notions of signified identities; namely, what it means to be a woman. Saturated, acidic colors serve both to combat our grayed-out social structures while celebrating the possibilities and nuances of female empowerment. The gridded and rectangular format are representations of historical and dogmatic norms within art and society. Thus, the conventionally rectangular format which adheres to “the grid” is completely deconstructed and reimagined through often interdisciplinary, shaped works. More recent textile works are completed using traditional sewing and quilting methods-both engaging a repetitively slow process that conjure a meditative space as they bridge the past and present.

It has certainly been a long minute since I’ve participated here on the gram…I’ve been working on these hand quilted silk pieces for over a year now and some ceramic hanging systems as well. I’m excited to finally share this one with you!
Approx. 56 in. x 21 in.
It’s happening! Clayton and I are moving in about two weeks to Cincinnati!! We are so excited for this change and are looking forward to exploring a new part of the country. Clayton will continue to do his software thing remotely from home and I will be teaching high school art-I get to teach ceramics next year for this first time ever and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I will miss my home state dearly but I feel confident that this transition is one we’ve been wanting and needing ✌️
Here’s a short clip that shows some details of the quilt I finished a few weeks ago, “Who I Am Vs Who I Want to Be”. The small stars at the bottom were my paintings I had printed onto fabric which felt like a fun new move on this one!
Sound on if you want to hear some birdies singing in the background.
“Who I Am Vs Who I Want to Be”, 53 in. x 41 in.

Completed this long, hand-painted silk piece. It’s appliquéd and quilted by hand but machine pieced. My textile work is often too large for my small, Bay Area home but this one found its way onto our wall.

We had a fantastic time in Lisbon! Ate lots of great food, went to every castle we could, and got to spend time with @moonica_coelho and see her incredible work!
