In the midst of a lot of heartbreak in the last few months I’ve been lucky to work with some amazing friends and colleagues on a project that has been slowly developing over the last two years. Zarabanda Variations is a collection of songs and dances inspired by histories and futures of New Spain, or present-day Mexico and the US. It has been an incredible source of imaginative respite for me, and an opportunity to learn from and collaborate with artists whose work is reframing the boundaries of the vernacular, experimental, and baroque in deeply resonant and timely ways.
Thank you to the people and organizations who have given this project the life it’s had so far… I am so excited for the continuation and development of this work. @yellowbarnmusic@carnegiehillconcerts@frequency_festival_chicago_@clarkart@runningamoc

I don’t take enough photos but here are some moments from the last weeks in LA. Grateful to play in some extraordinary productions over the past month, including @walkmango ‘s “How to Fall Apart”, and George Lewis’s opera “Comet”, after WEB Dubois’ story.
I’m in St. Pölten, Austria preparing for the final performance (after 4 months!) of Marie & Pierre, looking unbelievably excited for several shows back in the States:
2/17 Marie & Pierre at the Festspielhaus in St. Pölten, AU
2/22 Zarabanda Quartet @ Constellation (Frequency Festival), Chicago
2/24 US premiere of @celesteorama ‘s “Varpcast” @cprnyc in collaboration with @ensembleadapter , Brooklyn NY 3/8 Music from the Gow collections with @ruckusearlymusic at the Clark Museum in Williamstown, MA
Practicing some harmonic trills on an improvised sequence from Marie and Pierre.
This music supports a scene featuring @ophe_l_i_a
Each night sensing better the pacing and cadence of her movements and interactions with others on stage and ornamenting the spaces between.
We have a break from the show til after Christmas but I’m feeling grateful today for the ten(!!!) more opportunities to sink into this piece night after night. Truly a gift from @bobbijenesmith@celesteorama and everyone at Theater Basel that has made this work.
