I am so happy to announce that these two pieces from my “unkindness” series have been accepted for the 2024 Alumni Exhibition at @moorecollegeart ! This will be my first time exhibiting artwork in the alumni show. A little bit about the pieces: For the past few years I’ve been gathering words that people use on social media about people who use drugs. Their words are horrible and mean and hateful and yet some feel like they have a right to say them. Most of these comments are said about people who are also experiencing homelessness. I got a lot of these from Kensington community groups, but I’m sure I could find them anywhere. The orange circle pattern was made with an orange cap used on syringes that I found in Kensington. All of the “trash” was found on the streets in Kensington. The bird is a raven. Thank you to everyone who came out last night for the dedication of my (first!) mural, “my art gives me a voice.” It was great to see everyone and I’m so thankful for your support. Huge thanks to the team who got this mural looking beautiful: @okdehmurals (my mural mentor!), @belo for working on painting this just about every day for a few months while being an amazing manager of Color Me Back, the CMB crew: @vinne_rawness , @chewbacca_lyn , Esterline, Germaine, and the absolute best assistants (who taught me so much) @am_disco (queen of the blends!), @alimwilliams (all those days spent fixing alllll those lines), @yuliyaaaaas (mixing that gold color a million times), and @ambientdecay (who was a junior in high school at the time and has the steadiest hand). The good thing about being sick in the summer is that you can lie in the pool all day. (Lola used to climb the pool steps up to the deck and jump in the pool. Thankfully she’s almost 15 and not doing that anymore!)

**workshop has been rescheduled for July 13th!** FREE art workshop Saturday, July 13th, 10am-noon at @thelittlemeetinghouse on Jenkintown Road. We’ll be making mini weavings with fabric, yarn, vhs tape, plastic bags and more! All supplies will be provided, but if you have some favorite yarn or other things you’d like to use for your weaving, feel free to bring it with you. Look around your house and bring things that catch your eye - chances are that it can be added to your weaving! (Use 1059 Jenkintown Road as the address for GPS. Edit: I found more of those brochures - on my sign, on my weaving and on the mandala weavings on the fence. I walked thru the sculpture park but didn’t find any more. I also told security at the pride fest. To whoever left the super hateful brochure on the bench at my studio, I invite you to come hand that to me in person. What a gutless move for you to sit it on the bench. Did the pride fest at the art center hurt your feelings? Are you someone I know? Did my pride flag trigger you? LOVE ALWAYS WINS. 🏳️‍🌈 (PS: I blacked out the disgusting image on the one photo. Last week during our art workshop @preventionpointphiladelphia , a participant was looking at the memorial tile wall and talking about how much she enjoyed making tiles for friends and family who have passed. She said, “you know what? We need to make art for the survivors. For the people who are still alive out on these streets.” So that’s what we’ll be doing now for a while on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-2. When we get a bunch of these, we’ll create an installation and display them somewhere in the building. We are painting and drawing on these swallows and thinking of the survivors. 🖤 Today was also a friend’s brothers birthday. He passed three years ago, so to honor him, she brought a bunch of sunflowers to give out with a note that said “someone’s heart will break if you go.” 🖤 #artasharmreduction #preventionpointphiladelphia #artundertheel #survivors #communityart

A few months ago, @kpannepacker and I started a project during our art workshops @preventionpointphiladelphia called “messages from our hearts.” We have a large roll of paper that we spread out on the table, with markers and colored pencils.
