Kristy Luck, a Los Angeles-based painter, creates evocative works that explore the boundaries between abstraction and recognizability. Refusing to pin down a single referent or meaning, her works are poetic in their psychological density and rich ambiguity.
Her works in The Journey Before Me, currently on view at MarinMOCA, reimagine landscapes and organic forms using fluid gestures and rich colors, merging place, imagination, and memory. 🌀

Join us on June 1st for a walk-through of the exhibition The Journey Before Me: Etel Adnan, Michelle Blade, Kristy Luck with featured artist Kristy Luck, followed by a special screening of the film Ismyrna by award-winning filmmakers Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige.🎬
Joana met artist and poet Etel Adnan in the late 1990s. They quickly grew close over a shared connection to the city Smyrna, now Izmir, despite never visiting. Etel and Joana lived in an imaginary Smyrna, without ever setting foot there. In the film, both find themselves engaged in questions around the transmission of history as they interrogate their attachment to objects, places, the constructions of imaginaries, and mythologies without images. 🖼️

Michelle Blade, a Los Angeles-based painter, creates captivating, large-scale paintings that are inspired by real-world scenery even as they’re transformed into ethereal visions full of emotional depth. Over the course of 2023 and early 2024, Blade trekked to San Francisco North Bay to visit some of the places she grew to love while living in Northern California for more than a decade. Her works in The Journey Before Me, currently on view at MarinMOCA, will make you rethink popular, nearby sites as she recasts them with a grandeur and surreality that is both familiar and strange.💫🌠 🌌
