Controversial opinion: Miami is 1,000x better than LA. I did fall in love with Richard Serra’s “Band” at @lacma though✌🏼

🎤 I started my speech by making fun of men and that seemed like the perfect way to present to the 200+ people supporting @pamm ’s International Women’s Committee! 🩵 PAMM’s IWC supports exhibitions by women artists and honors one very special woman in the arts every year. We had the pleasure of hosting Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and honoring her for her commitment to Latin American art and artists. I also had the pleasure to share that the IWC will be supporting the first solo museum exhibition by @calidagarciarawles at @pamm ! 💦 We are so proud of what this show represents and we cannot wait for you all to see it! Stay tuned for 2024! Fun fact: PAMM’s permanent collection consists of over 40% women artists—higher than most other institutions—and we’ll just keep bumping that up. It’s amazing what can happen when you’ve got women curators running the show! 🙌🏼✨

Visit and experience why @vogue featured "Jason Seife: Coming to Fruition"⁣ in its spring 2023 lineup of best art shows.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In "Coming to Fruition," artist Jason Seife (@jasonseife ) presents his elaborate process in "medias res"––amid the action. Seife is Miami-based and like many Miamians, is the son of immigrants, in his case of Cuban and Syrian descent. His art practice centers on his Middle Eastern heritage, referencing Persian carpets and the intricate details found in mosques and traditional #Islamicart .⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ "Jason Seife: Coming to Fruition"⁣ opens Thursday, May 18, and is organized by Maritza Lacayo (@maritzamelania ), PAMM assistant curator.⁣ ⁣ Click link in bio to plan your visit and reserve tickets!⁣⁣ ⁣ Installation view: "Jason Seife: Coming to Fruition"⁣ Pérez Art Museum Miami, Miami, Florida, 2023. This girl isn’t just a reader, she’s also a WRITER!✨ Over the years, I’ve had the great opportunity to contribute to numerous arts publications, exhibition catalogues, and now my first collaboration with @phaidonpress ! #vitamincplus 🥳 This beautiful book is an indispensable survey of contemporary artists working with collage, chosen by leading international art experts. A showcase of over 100 living artists from around the world whose work demonstrates the wide-ranging possibilities of collage today—both analogue and digital. Artists were nominated by an esteemed panel of museum directors, curators, critics, and collectors for the central role that collage plays in their visual art practice. Ordered A to Z by artist, each is represented by a selection of recent artworks and an incisive and informative text. I was fortunate enough to write about THREE of the wonderful artists I nominated for this publication: Njideka Akunyiki Crosby, Ebony G. Patterson, and Tschabalala Self. ALL WOMEN! ✊🏼 I am extremely honored to be included alongside so many wonderful contributors and collaborators. Thank you, @phaidonpress ❤️‍🔥 #vitamincplus 📸: the one and only @lazarollanescreative

Just a few weeks ago, I had the honor and privilege to meet Lily, a beautiful 19 year old girl who loves art. Thanks to @makeawishsfla , Lily was able to visit us @pamm and we gave her and her family a tour! ❤️ Art is the most powerful tool for genuine human interaction—this is something I have always believed. Art gives us the opportunity to get to know one another better and getting to know Lily and her family was a real joy! Cheers to you, Lily! 🫶🏼 📸: @lazarollanescreative

One year ago today, I donated my left kidney to my brother. (Swipe 🥹) Needless to say, this has been the most enlightening year of my life. I wanted to share a few of the things I’ve learned along the way and some of the struggles that I didn’t see coming… Very few things are actually worth your time, energy, effort, worry, and attention. Very few. You probably already know what they are and can count them on one hand. The surgery looked “simple” but what my body went through was violent and I needed to learn how to be patient in the healing process. I wasn’t always successful. I struggled with body image issues even though my brain fully understood what was happening. I gained weight and cried every time I tried to put on a pair of jeans that no longer fit. Eventually, I bought new jeans and remembered that my clothes are supposed to fit me, not the other way around. This decision was entirely mine and mine only. That’s how it needs to be. Any and all decisions about your body and your future should be your own and should be made with self-love at the very center. Self care is survival. Audre Lorde taught me that but now I actually understand it. Your body is exceptional, perfect, beautiful, and hardworking. Living organ donation is so much more than a gesture of love. It is giving someone the opportunity to keep living. To keep making mistakes, to keep eating great food, to keep traveling, to keep loving others, to keep working, to keep inspiring, to keep enjoying everything life has to offer. Lastly, a fun fact! I was born with two kidneys of different sizes, which isn’t unusual but not very common. When you donate a kidney, you usually donate your left one—it’s easier to remove than the right. Turns out my left kidney was the big one, about 15% bigger than the other, and I agreed to give that one up since my right kidney was still of a normal size and excellent function. So, brother got the big one. His kidney function TODAY is approximately 84%, mine is 64%. I’m doing exactly as expected. 60 to 70% is perfect for a donor. 84%? That’s UNREAL. Was this always meant to be? I’d like to think so.
