When I started photographing artists by chance back in 2010, I had zero experience. I asked random questions and made many mistakes. I traveled to hundreds of artists’ studios all over the world in the following decades, always striving to bring something deeper to an artist’s profile—not a technical overview of their work, but an analysis of the meaning of their work in the world we live in today and how their life story intersects with that meaning. Back then, I would have never hoped to meet someone like Philippe Parreno, a visionary who has transformed entire spaces into artworks and has been at the forefront of defining what art is in the 21st century. Here is my short, evergreen profile of Philippe. Thanks to all who helped! Special thanks to
@kitty_metcalfe for this opportunity,
@gillianmcvey @atelierphilippeparreno @lorenzomajno .
Philippe Parreno continuously transforms the art of exhibition-making through his innovative use of film, performance, sculpture, and installation. The French artist meticulously choreographs time and space, turning the exhibition itself into a cohesive artwork.
