When I started photographing artists by chance back in 2010, I had zero experience. I asked random questions and made many mistakes. I traveled to hundreds of artists’ studios all over the world in the following decades, always striving to bring something deeper to an artist’s profile—not a technical overview of their work, but an analysis of the meaning of their work in the world we live in today and how their life story intersects with that meaning. Back then, I would have never hoped to meet someone like Philippe Parreno, a visionary who has transformed entire spaces into artworks and has been at the forefront of defining what art is in the 21st century. Here is my short, evergreen profile of Philippe. Thanks to all who helped! Special thanks to @kitty_metcalfe for this opportunity, @gillianmcvey @atelierphilippeparreno @lorenzomajno . Philippe Parreno continuously transforms the art of exhibition-making through his innovative use of film, performance, sculpture, and installation. The French artist meticulously choreographs time and space, turning the exhibition itself into a cohesive artwork. To delve deeper into his unique approach and witness the magic unfold, click the link in bio and watch the full film on NOWNESS. “A new aesthetic is being formed, movement, the element of space, sound, the element of time and the movement that develops in time and space. They are the fundamental forms of the new art that contains the four dimensions of existence.” says Lucio Fontana, painter and sculptor who in 1951 contributed to the overall design of the 9th Milano Triennale with the cutting-edge neon light installation “La Scultura Luminosa” (The Light Sculpture). @fondazioneluciofontana 1923:Past Futures jumps back in time and recreates, thanks to #3D and #virtualreality , Palazzo dell’Arte’s hall where the piece was exhibited. In collaboration with @triennalemilano and @htcvivearts , full experience coming soon at Palazzo dell’Arte, Milano. Ciao Lina. Nonna di quartiere. Barista e cuoca. Canta storie.

Grazie al team fantastico di Reframe @javier_garcia_lajara @lon.fran @missgiuliatoccafondi @vittorio_giampietro Happy to be present the prototype of“1923: Past Futures”, a VR experience produced by @reframe.vr directed by me in collaboration with @VIVEarts and @triennalemilano . Vladimir Dubossarsky lives and works in Khimki a suburb of Moscow. In the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Dubossarsky teamed up with Alexander Vinogradov as an art duet, fusing socialist realism with modern cultural icons to comment on the explosion of the Russian bourgeoisie. The pair became one of the most important artists of the 1990s. Dubossarsky, says that the years following the collapse of the USSR were very interesting for Russian art, as a contemporary scene emerged and interest from western art institutions flooded. “Everyone wants to see the art of the enemy,” he said. “When the enemy is dead, it is very interesting to see.” #russianart #nationalportraitgallery #natgeo #beauxartsmag #hansulrichobrist #mamiya7ii
