The title draws from 'Le Voyage Dans la Lune' (1902), a silent film by Georges Méliès that follows a group of astronomers who travel to the moon and have to escape from its native inhabitants, the Selentines, one of whom is later taken captive by the astronomers and brought back to earth. Through its adventure, technological wonder, and absurdity, the film is frequently considered the first science fiction film in cinematic history and a piece of anti-imperialist satire.
The collective of artists gathered at Voyage share this spirit of transcendence and world building. Their works are frequently unmoored from any specific time or place to instead foster spaces of desire and projection. An intergenerational group of artists that bridge multiple locales; they span London, Glasgow, mid-century Antigua and present-day New York.
