Heart is bursting with alto glory after this year’s @americanviolasociety . So many heroes on stage and in the presentations this past week. Thank you for all that came out to our presentation of the Eric Wubbels viola quartet, a piece I totally revel returning to, and to @freyaviol for spearheading the migration of a bunch of east coasters to LA. Super bonus: I was lucky enough to catch the @runningamoc totally arresting performance of The Comet Poppea, an opera of interwoven music of George Lewis and Monteverdi. Next week, on Thursday, June 27th: composer @scott.wollschleger returns to Roulette to celebrate the release of his new album BETWEEN BREATH, out TODAY on @newfocusrecordings ! 🔥 Compositions by Wollschleger – recently described as “a small masterpiece” by the @nytimes – will be performed by violin/violist Miranda Cuckson, percussionist Kevin Sims, trombonist William Lang @williamkeatslang , and pianists Karl Larson and Anne Rainwater, all close collaborators of Wollschleger. The program will be highlighted by the New York premiere of a major new work for solo violin: 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘕𝘰. 7, in addition to New York premieres of multiple other new works. This week, both Scott and I are celebrating our birthdays, and the best possible present would be to see you at his Between Breath album release show at Roulette on June 27. Soon to be out on New Focus Recordings, this album is the culmination of years of work, 100 late nights, trips across the country, edits, rewrites, workshops, and now, an incredible final product.
