Josh Kline’s Climate Change is both an exhibition and a total work of art — an ambitious, immersive suite of science-fiction installations that imagines a future sculpted by ruinous climate crisis and the ordinary people destined to inhabit it. Begun in 2018 and produced in sections over the last five years, Kline’s eponymous project will be brought together for the first time for this exhibition, mobilizing sculpture, moving image work, photography, and ephemeral materials to completely transform the galleries of MOCA Grand Avenue.

Cover: A 19th-century Western reproduction of a 1559 Ottoman mappa mundi attributed to Hacı Ahmet, likely a Turkish translation of a French cartographer’s work. Then titled ‘Map of the World: A Complete and Perfect Map Describing the Whole World,’ Ahmet describes himself within this work as ‘poor, wretched, and downtrodden,’ and abducted by ’infidels.’ Work on the map was ostensibly exchanged for his freedom.

The MOCA Store hosts an evening celebrating Los Angeles–based artists Ann Hirsch and Maya Man’s new project, Little Darlings. The artists behind the cult NFT project Ugly Bitches, Hirsch and Man are taking the collection from the screen to the stage. In a live lecture performance, the artists touch on themes of gender, self-optimization, and social media.
This event, presented by the MOCA Store, took place at MOCA Grand Avenue on Thursday, Mar 28, 2024 and included the launch of the artists’ “Little Ugly”’ plushie creature, a physical stuffed toy that represents the spirit of the Ugly Bitches collection.
